#1 Resorts near Innsbruck for a long weekender? Posted 10/03/2010 @ 10:29 |

Hello all,
Thinking of leaving the well trodden path of London-Geneva-France and going to Austria for a long weekender in a week or so's time. Anyone got any recommendations? Ideally I would look to base myself somewhere for the time and drive to wherever I need to/ More than happy to sample smaller/less popular resorts.
The other side of the coin would be to train it to St Anton and stay there.
Any thoughts more than welcome.
cheers and that. |

Try Axamar Lizum (awesome loads of runs bout 20k away from Innsbruck), Stubai Glacier (loads of snow at the mo, plenty of runs, about 20k away again), Hungerborg Mountain (think its about 10k away from the centre of Innsbruck), Patscherkofel mountain in Igls (about 10k away again, nice mountain for a day). Do know its been snowing like mad on the Patsch for the last couple of days.
Have fun, I'm there 2 weeks on Saturday |

Innsbruck is a sweet little base - and even has a ski area within city limits - Nordkette. You can catch a cable car from the city centre.
Axamer Lizum is definately worth a look, as are the other small resorts in the vicinity such as Mutters, Glungazer-Bhan and Igls... |

Left everything to the last second. Turned out to be quite a hassle trying to find accomodation anywhere apart from in Innsbruck where it is dead easy. Word of advice - don't even bother looking at booking a guesthouse or anything in St Anton. There is no space at that particular inn. So a couple of days around Innsbruck and a couple at Mayrhofen. Should be good. Then Cham a few weeks later. Then it's put the snowboard away time. |
