Revision #2 (Last edited: 24/06/2010 @ 14:44) |
Hi, new to this forum and hoping someone can help us out. Spent ages looking for a resort for me and a friend (and maybe a few more but unsure yet!) to go boarding next January. My mates never done a snow holiday before and I've been to borovetz once in 2009 but fancy somewhere different. We're both mid 20s and want somewhere with a good nightlife mainly but not stupidly expensive. We'd love Austria or France but there's so many resorts we don't know where to start! As we'll need board hire, ski pass and lessons been looking at booking through Crystal or Neilson.
If anyone could recommend a few resorts that would suite us it would be greatly appreciated! |

If you're looking for cheap/cheerful/lively resorts then I'd recommend Pas De La Casa. Not as cheap as it used to be but still pretty good value in the scheme of things and much improved ski area in recent years.
Other than that, maybe Zell Am See, Sauze D'Oulx, Livigno. |

Check out the resorts in Andorra too, supposed to be one of the 'cheaper' resorts in the alps/pyrenees areas of Europe. |

Hi Katie, Have a look at our website. We are in France in one of the cheapest resorts of the 3 valleys (Courchevel, Meribel and Val Thorens). We can arrange lift pass, lessons and and we have our own boards (all Burton, Ride or Lib Tech) we can rent to you. La Tania has live music every night so there's always somewhere lively. Even if La Tania is not for you, call Andrea and she can give you more advice as to where else might suit you. Hope this helps,
Hairy Phil |

Some decent suggestions there although Sauze can be a bit dodgy for snow earlier on as it's not that high - plenty enough nighlife though! I did Borovets in 99 and Livigno the following year with two mates who hadn't been before so that could be a shout - it's not that big but is high altitude and has good nightlife. I'd also throw Mayrhofen into the mix as you mentioned France/Austria - found this to be quite cheap getting a 'snow home' (basically a B&B on allocation - I think with Inghams but may have been Crystal) and nightlife was decent. |

Morzine is the place, Amazing terrain, full of nice people, not too up its self and a good nightlife. Its also relatively inexpensive as far as ski or snowboard resorts go, check it out you'll love it! |

Mayrhofen in Austria is a great resort if you are looking for somewhere with a lively nightlife. Its easy to get to - short transfer from Innsbruck - and all the main tour operators go there. I'm sure if you book up early enough, there will be some good deals on the go. When you are there, you will find it is much cheaper than France (and we also found its cheaper than Italy which was a surprise).
The resort has two separate areas - the AHorn and Penken mountains. The Ahorn has some pretty mellow terrain which is good for beginners. The Penken is a big area, with plenty of beginner friendly terrain. There is also the amazing Vans Penken Park with its restaurant, which is a great place to chill and watch the pro's pulling their crazy moves! There is also a beginner park right next to it, if you fancy trying your hand at some easy kickers and boxes.
Nightlife-wise, there are some great bars. The party atmosphere starts around early afternoon on the slopes, and carries on all night in the bars and clubs in resort itself(although can be avoided if you want a quieter night!).
If you want any specific info, please feel free to get in touch. |
