  #1  repairing minor chips?  Posted 29/06/2010 @ 09:51
Hi,

I got my board last season. I've only done 3 weeks riding on it so far but it now has a couple of minor superficial chips. Actually I think my board is possibly prone to chipping due to it's taperd tips, it's the 08/09 Darkstar. I'm just considering giving it a little tlc to fix up these chips and keep it in tip top condition.

What are the glue materials I should use to do this? Can I do it without a glue gun?

this first chip looks like it could be glued down...

this one just filled or left...

Cheers,

I use Araldite precision extra strong slow setting 2 part epoxy for stuff like the first one. There might be something better, but I've always found it to work fine.

Get some resin, (you can actually buy a quick setting resin in most board shops for base repair, will work on that too.) And fill the gap, then get a clamp and clamp it firmly in place. For the second chip, get some resin to fill the gap and then smooth it out on top. They dont look to bad, it probably wont matter if you leave them, but thats because I cant tell if theve gone to the core or not. Either way its best to waterproof them again.

Araldite/Resin/etc = Epoxy Resin = Every rider should have some in their kit!

Epoxy comes in two parts that when mixed together will set over a few hours and cure fully in about a day. (Try and apply some pressure to the repair with some metal scrapers or similar and a clamp.... dont use something plastic as it'll probably stick too )

Go to your DIY/Car repair shop of choice and buy some that comes in two separate little tubes with resealable lids (The syringes tend to gunk up)... Once you have fixed these little repairs, the rest can be stored in your toolbox for pretty much any other emergency repair.

Have fun!

Thanks for the tips!

Does anybody know any board shops online that sell resin? I'm just thinking I might be able to find one in black if I look for snowboard dedicated resin and then I would be able to use it on the base in the future if I need to.. otherwise I'll just go to a hardware store like you suggested.
