a few people have noticed some of their posts disappearing for no apparent reason (eg in the slovakia rejecks trip thread and the 10th march thread in snomates).
is this a bug? surely not down to being modded as none of them contained anything dodgy!

oh, and is the "contacts online" bit at the bottom left of the screen working right? seems like all my contacts are permanently on-line on the forum...of course, maybe they are......but seems to be the case whatever time of day, day of the week.....

cheers.

The mods have a habit of deleting anything off topic - even if it isn't dodgy.

Please lets not have this turn into another debate on the subject though.

Half the threads on this site make no sense they get so heavily modded, im just an unimportant user so its probably none of my business but i think some people need to chill out a bit and stop over reacting and deleting things all the time. We arent robots and just like any normal conversation the topic can shift and peple like to make smart or funny remarks back, its called being human and having a personality. Cant personally see how thats hurting anyone.

Oh and yeah ive noticed that everyone in my list seem to be online all the time even if i know theyre not.

I'm afraid this has been a little bit of a sore subject on this forum for some time. GONEboarding try to keep the threads on topic, and if they run off at a tangent, have to be heavily moderated.

A lot of the time, you have to see it from the mod's point of view. They have to ensure the site conforms to the terms and conditions set out for a fully accessible (ie all ages) forum. These outline are set out by the main governing body, and not the site itself. Starnzy, the site administrator, does an excellent job keeping this forum professional, and it's no mean feat with the amount of traffic that goes through here.

With hundreds of posts being made every day in several different threads, it's very difficult to keep everybody happy.

The forum is split, into ranked threads, and non-ranked. The ranked threads need to be kept on topic, as they're there for information as much as general chit-chat on a certain subject. If you want to have banter, or a bit of a fun thread, the misc section is there for that.

Complaining about posts disappearing is a little overdone now, the moderators have a job to do, as outlined by terms and conditions, and instruction from the administrator. Please, if you have any more complaints about it, then contact Starnzy, or the moderators directly by PM. Lets not make any more threads about it, as the subject has been more than covered now.

I hope this helps explain it. I'm not a mod no, but I've been on the site now for a large percentage of its existance, and seen this subject come up on many occasions, it has to be kept to a happy medium. If you want a thread to have banter, and go completely off topic, stick it in the misc section and it will be overlooked. Topical threads need to be kept topical, simple as that really.

Oh and yeah ive noticed that everyone in my list seem to be online all the time even if i know theyre not. - I think the reset counter that updates the site when someone leaves is a bit broken at the mo and Starnzy is in Tahoe. It'll be fixed when he gets back, so just chill

I don't think there's a lot of over-zealous modding on here, tends to just be the odd thread that spirals off-topic. I think the mods do a good job of balancing the free flow of conversations and keeping things on-topic.

It doesn't matter - if there's sexual innuendo (anywhere), it goes off topic on a "ranked" thread or anything else that contravenes the rules which you have signed up for then it should go in my opinion.

I personally think it's a bit childish to actually count how many posts you think have been modded and even to comment that you're a moderator on another site. I would have thought, by being a moderator on another site you would have understood the reasons for the rules.

That's my last post on the subject, as PB stated it's been discussed to death and if you don't like it talk to Starnzy. I'm sure he'll sort you out.

My point being that sometimes things do deviate from the topic for a few posts, its natural but they always seem to end up back on topic after a while anyway. I dont think personally that it should be such a big deal.

As for calling people childish, its comments and attitudes like that that have made a few new memebers i know stop using this site. If that what you want then fine but i always thought that it was about spreading the word and making new friends. There are a few people on here who dont seem to understand the concept of making new people feel welcome and cutting them some slack instead of going all secret police on them.

But like i keep saying, im just a fairly new user i dont suppose my opinion really matters.

as with nick, i haven't been here long, so still trying to get used to things!

i must say though, i haven't found this sort of thing happening elsewhere!!! not a criticism...i mean all forums differ slightly (not a bad thing)...merely an observation.

i like that way threads can get a bit random personally, adds to the fun. besides.....not picking out any in particular, but not all such "off-topic" posts have been removed, only some...seems a little er.....inconsistent!

i appreciate though that being a mod is a largely thankless task done on a voluntary basis and that you guys do get a fair bit of flack! not getting at anyone, just trying to understand things!

And subsequently other forums are a pain in the arse trying to trawl trough the huge number of posts that have no relevance, and just generally people having a conversation. I for one cannot be arsed to get through all that trying to pick out the proper thread line.

If it's a little bit of banter it's left, but a string of non-topic banter isn't, and for good reason, as has been said so many times, there's a place for that, in the misc section. No-one is cutting out people's fun, they're just trying to keep the ranked threads clean and easy to read.

If you have any objections to exclusion, you might feel that it has unnecessarily been deleted, it can be reinstated, you just need to contact the administrator or moderator to find out why it has been, and subsequently it'll be reviewed.

So come on, just keep enjoying the forum, and if you have a problem then contact the relevant people!

oh, i'm still enjoying it, don't get me wrong! this may have been mentioned before, but its new to me and i'm just trying to get to grips with how things work here! no objections really, just trying to understand exactly where the boundaries are before things get cropped (they seem a little blurred to a newbie's eyes).

end of the day....its all gravy!

Plus of course every moderator is going to be different to a certain degree, so it might appear inconsistent in a way.
