QUOTE (Mimph - 15/01/2012 @ 15:53) I'm assuming no one here has ridden the new modles in the last few years. You can adjust the forward lean on them and the new power strap has been designed to allow you to move your ankle more. Although don't know if there is still a big difference compared to straps. I always find the whole flow thing crazy for the love hate thing with them. There the second biggest binding manufacture behind burton yet the people who don't use them hate them. People that do love them. It's like the rocker thing years back. Let's stop the bindisem people and all hold hands and be friends. Im with you on this! i have the 2011 NXT-ATs and there amazing! |

They are super popular because they reek of convenience...but, I know from 26 seasons of teaching and recent experience with current model Flows, that they will hold you back... end of story.
Peace out! Use them and enjoy. |

Well I've bought a pair of 2012 K2 Auto Uprise. I've set them up which was fairly straight forward after watching a vid on Youtube. Won't get chance to try them out until next Sunday though. But they look and feel much more sturdier than the SP's I've had. |

Whilst I like my K2's Auto's, I really do miss my old flows when at Hemel - should have just kept them for indoor. |

I'm riding the K2 Cinch CTX this season and am loving them. They are reall easy to get in and out of and are easily as responsive as a regular strap binding. They are a bit heavier than a standard binding but when you're 16.5 stone it makes no odds really |

OK, I've been riding quite a long time and currently use Flows, this year particularly I have been happier with them than ever before. (this is probably more down to having a modern board though)
I can see how they could reduce ankle flex and accentuate heal lift. They do reduce ankle flex a bit; I'm certainly not bolt upright on the board though, I flex quite a lot. Having properly fitting boots is probably more important for good riding; I actually figured out a new technique for getting my boots done up real well last week which made things even better.
Would I get Flow again? Hmmm, possibly. I think I would have to just get out there and try a load of different things out see what works. I'm pretty happy with them right now but then the only other bindings I have used were my very old ratchets which I was using with old lace up boots. I haven't even got Flows with ratchets either. I'm planning on a bit trip next year so will probably want to take another board and another set of bindings with me anyway. I don't board with skiers often; I prefer to ski if I am with skiers and I have a pair of 180 race carvers for that. So the convenience of Flows isn't important to me - I actually got them for comfort originally.
Bob, couple of terminology questions. What is toe pedalling? is this just when you torsionally flex the board by pulling up one toe and one heal?
If I do stuff it would be handy to know the name of it and if I am not doing something I would like to know about it! |

I put my K2 Auto's onto the board and tried getting in and out of them (just in the lounge). Two immediate "flaws" I hadn't previously considered - stepping in and out isn't as straight forward as I thought. The toes strap gets in the way a fair bit, but I guess with practice / more use this would become easier. The other thing is bailing in pow - it's going to be very difficult getting out and then back into them - especially if you're up to your chest in the pow.
Too late now though. Will have to let you know how I get on |

This is also a problem with Flows. If you stack it badly in the pow and have to remove your board you will find it very difficult to get it back on. I've been stuck a couple of times and have had to make my way towards the nearest tree and try and flatten myself out a decent area where I could clear out all the snow and get myself sorted out. |

Yeah I noticed this also when I hit the snow with them the first time. I also found them a little tricky to get out. Just takes time to get into the groove with them I suppose |

The other thing that worries me a little with the Auto's is the wire that connects the ankle strap to the toe strap. And I know it's fairly unlikely, but if water got in and expanded when it turned to ice, it could cause the wire to weaken and possible break. |

JDOD, foot pedalling is using the board's torsional flex to turn the board so it turns by design and not force. On a heel edge turn you would push up against your toe straps and on a toe side turn you would push against your ankle straps. Your front foot moves milliseconds before your back foot. |

I think we are singing off the same hymn sheet, and yes, Flows are restrictive for this. |
