#1  Pick of 3 Boots.. Opinions and Recommendations appreciated : Vans Andreas Wigg / Salomon Synapse / Salomon F22  Posted 14/02/2010 @ 23:56
Hi

I am looking to get some new boots and these are the 3 that Snow and Rock recommended for me.

I am a intermediate to advanced raider, Happier riding all mountain and jibbing and hitting powder when ever I get the chance.

I ride a 159 Bataleon Evil Twin ( Great Board )

I haven't spent much time in the park but never say never.

Does anyone have any opinions on these boots.. Which is best for me?

I am off to Avoriaz in 14 days so really need to get a set of boots from Snow and Rock as they are local

Thanks very much in advance.

Matt

I tried on the synapse, F22 and Vans Jamie Lynn BFBs as my feet are crazy narrow with very narrow heels.

Out of the three, the F22s felt like the best supporting, most comfortable and best fit. They also have a decent stiffness for my riding, and do not pad out.

The only thing I can suggest is to try them on, give em a good pounding in the shop and "ride the floor" so you can gauge the flex/ heel lift etc.

The F22s are the best boots I've ridden in. They are smaller boots, so you're closer to the board and can get away with a none wide if you've got bigish feet (in most cases, not all). But everyone is different.

To do this though the liner is part of the boot, and cannot be removed.

I can't emphasise enough though that you need to try them on and see which are best for you.

edit: Ah you posted as I was typing. If you find all three comfortable, how does the flexibility rate with you as you bend and relax into your boots? If they feel roughly the same, then I suppose choose whatever colour/lacing system/other features you prefer. I do find it intriguing that you don't notice much of a difference between them though, I certainly did.

How long did you wear them for and did you walk and "test" them when you did?

I've got the Vans Andreas Wigg and they are the best boots I've had.

They are a stiff boot but good for all types of riding.

I'm surprised they all fitted, I found the Vans to be a very different fit (i.e. bigger) around the heel than the Salomon's!

The Salomons were the most comfy but I did think they were a little soft..The Vans much more hugging but not sure which are more suitable for my sort of riding..

Its quite tricky with out having a bit of slope to try them out on

F22, especially if you have narrow feet.

Hi

I decided to go for the Vans ... Worst mistake ever!

I rode them for a week in Avoriaz and was back at Snow and Rock the day after I got back for a refund. ( which I got )

I was fitted by S&R and even bought the super feet inserts in the shop and the boots felt snug..not uncomfortable but snug.

I commented this to the sales guy who was very helpful and said he had the same pair and really rated them..

I told him where they were tight etc and he said that was fine.. He even commented he had gone down a half size to make them overly snug..

In a nutshell these things destroyed my feet in the first few days...

I was close to throwing the f*cking things over a cliff.....

I figured it was just a case of wearing them in, like with any new footwear... Not the case.. and by the 4th day I had accepted these boots were not going to work for me and hired a pair of Burton Hails and never looked back..

I know what I will be looking for as soon as the sales start...

Now its possible I was fitted wrong but I don't think thats the case.. I think its just that the vans puts to much pressure on the top of your foot and cuts off all circulation.

I wouldn't say I have fat feet... well actually I don't have fat feet.. So I am really not sure who these boots would really be ideal for..

Anyway..thats my 5pence worth

Coincidently.. Of the group of 22 people I was with.. 2 had this years Vans and complained about how painful they were to wear.. and one commented he had a Set of Vans Fargo's last year and would never touch them again..

matt, I would forget those and try the Northwave Legends or Decades. I love my legends and had em for 3 years now while others complain about their Vans or Burton boots. Don't know about F22 but if they're for narrow feet then I'd avoid. Have a look in the sales now...

My Wigg's are the best boots I've had.

Boots are a personal thing, what is good for me might not be good for someone else.
