Looking up grandpa's thing, I'm thinking Wikipedia is geographically illiterate at least: the Bugaboos are quite a way from Blue River. That's between the Cariboos and Monashees, the Bugaboos are in the Purcell range I think.

what was the outcome with this in the end?

Did the staff get there jobs backs or compensation in the end? is it going to be the same fiasco this coming season!?

Not much besides posting a job for a Online Communications Manager which is badly needed for SSV as a company, perhaps Rouge_skier can update us further. Powder mag posted an article and SSV posted a rubbish response:

This facebook page has updates on more than just the staff issue as SSV:

It's just a shame a company is ruining a great ski hill.

Thanks for those links. I like the Powder article. The SSV response really is rubbish, ignoring the issue, which was the owner's son throwing a tantrum after getting caught ducking a rope, the result of which was ordinary people losing their jobs, to say nothing of slope safety for everyone else. It's almost funny.

Agreed, they may as well have not responded to it at all. Glad I applied for a job at Lake Louise instead of Sunshine for this season - doesn't mean that it won't happen anywhere else though...

It's still with the courts....Some of The fired staff have moved on to an exciting new venture (I'm keeping quiet till it's confirmed!).... Business as usual at SSV.... For now.

A new document has been posted, look for the affidavit of Chris Chevalier, it's long but worth a read:

Interesting reading. The "snot-nosed, arrogant, abusive little bastards" part rings true to me.

Those interviews were one-sided and hostile. Clearly the owner had already decided to fire everyone already, so it's hard to see what the point was other than intimidation. Perhaps they enjoy bullying people. I hate that kind of bullying - a disgraceful exhibition, compounding their original failure to protect their customers.

I wonder how safe the new patrollers feel - their job would appear to be impossible.

Maybe someone should make a bunch of rubber "scurfield" masks, so everyone can break all the rules.

Shame, it was a decent resort.

Just disgraceful behaviour. You employ someone to keep the clients safe, and when they attempt to do their job, you sack them because the owner's son believes the rules don't apply to him.
That's how ski hills go bust.
To be honest Sunshine wasn't really on my list until I saw the backside. Now it's not again.

We had a pretty poor season last year at Sunshine, exactly because of the lack of patrollers. The area's were opening up way later than they should have been, and some seemed to be roped off for most of the season!
Plus when they do get snow the whole of Calgary swoops in and scrapes it flat in an hour.
So there's much better options if your in this area, mainly I head to Panorama & Kicking Horse but there's also Lake Louise, Revelstoke, Fernie, Castle. All with far less traffic (except maybe Louise) and all with far better management.

If I were to recommend somewhere for a holiday, I'd definitely choose Kicking Horse or Revelstoke over SSV (not even a contest).

Pretty much agree with that, Over the years I have been lucky enough to visit lots of areas in Canada and the least appealing place has always been Sunshine. Been about 4 or 5 times and it just does not compare to KH,Revi,Red,Castle,Fernie etc etc... When in Banff I much prefer LL or a few hours at Norquay.
