to be fair, it is in the rules.

You have to be able to link turns, control speed and use the poma lifts.

It's in black and white.

It's the same as driving tbh, if you're having lessons then you can't go out on your own until you pass your test.

I get you about black and white mate, and yeah if you can't link turns you should maybe get another lesson, but this girl wasn't gonna hurt anyone.

Not like the bloke i saw the same night that went flat for the whole length of the slope and rag dolled into the netting when he couldn't stop.

They let him stay.
He must have been able to link turns...
Wait for me at the bottom.

True. I did see a similar thing happen at Hemel--except the girl was moved onto the lesson slope and pretty much given 1-to-1 lessons!

A benefit of her being rather attractive, no doubt.

Doesn't say anything in the rules about linking turns just that you have to be able to control your speed and stop safely

Taken from the Sno!Zone MK website:

http://www.snozone.co.uk/html/milton-keynes/activities-prices/snow-slope/main-slope-activities/

PLEASE NOTE: For the enjoyment and safety of all SNO!zone customers, for un-tutored main slope use you must meet our minimum standard; be able to use the lifts, control your speed/direction and perform controlled linked turns. If you do not reach this standard we have a comprehensive lesson programme.

I don't know - it was there when I first went to MK (I had never (successfully) used a poma lift before, so felt like a proper ninja sneaking in not being able to use one...

please don't ruin it for me by saying they don't really care...

Hmmm I am with you on that one Nick!
I honestly cannot remember, having to be able to link turns confidently being a requirement for recreational use of the slope. I was always aware that you had to be able to control your speed and be able to stop safely.
I mean, most newbs use the slope recreationally to practice linking their turns right?!

It's been awhile though

The instructor that I had at MK said as long as he saw me do one controlled link turn then he would tick me off for level four, then I could go practise on the main slope! If the instructors are doing/saying that, how on earth can the slope guys enforce the rule of controlled link turns? My one link turn on my level four lesson was a fluke, and I only managed to do a clean one once that whole session !

Because they ask you to confirm it before you buy the ticket. It's been a requirement at Cas for at least 4 years, 3 requirements, link turns, control speed and use a poma.

Agree it's very harsh if they're in control and it's not busy, but if you it is in the T+C's that they make you agree to before buying your ticket

thats very true actually. Its been a requirement at MK since I started last sept. I guess its luck of the draw, sometimes i go and im ok with the turns, other times im a bit sketchy, and no one has said anything to me. Must have been lucky by the sounds of it

well i would have thought that the most important aspects of boarding in a dome would be the ability to STOP quickly and suddenly if the need be (someone falls in front of you etc..) and that mean having control over your edges does it not?? and is that not the main part of garlands/side sliping etc...??

so are we not alowed to do a few runs of these to keep the feel so to speak?? are we gonna get thrown off becasue we have not yet linked turns in what the slope walla deems an appropriate amount of time??

i may be wrong but i could have sworn that not so long ago some more advanced boarders on this forum advised soime newbies to " use the first few runs of the day to get your feeling back nad warmed up" by doing a few runs side slipping and garland...?? and that makes total sense to me too.. in fact the last time i went to MK i owuld say 3 quarters of the boarder we doing garlands, i was amazed at how many it was (maybe that why?? too many people not tkaing their lessons?)

i too have seen a guy flatlining it down the slope and ragg dolling it into the netting......4 times on the trot??? then he changed over to some ski's (was using his mates board i think?) and the result was no better.... he was not asked to leave.... andi couldn't believe it becasue he was a danger to everyone??

just my 2 cents worth

Andy.

Hey Kip

That's really my point (I think...), as the same applied to me. As the end of the session was approaching everything was rushed through. One quick sketchy use of the button lift and some skethcy linked turns, especially in the steeper sections

Can I link my turns? Technically yes. I'm fine on the lower section...so I know I can do it
Can I link my turns consistantly on the steeper sections? No

I just feel that there is a potential gap between getting "level 4" signed off and using the main slope. At a bare minimum they should at least take you for a couple of runs on the main slope before signing you off to use it. As with any kind of tuition, there is never a one size fits all solution. Some pick it up quicker than others

But after reading all your posts, I'm of the opinion that I'm just gonna get on with it.......everyone has to start somewhere, take a few knocks, and practice, practice, practice......I'm pretty sure after reading numerous posts is that I'm tending to hold my weight to the back of the board rather than leaning with slope. Practice that and I reckon I'm on target to be a top pro in a month or so

I'm gonna head back to the dome in a couple of weeks, have 1 hours private tuition shared with my mate and then use my free hour afterwards to nail it (or it nail me)

I'll let you all know when I'm going, and you can know when to keep out of my way ....and be ready with your video cameras at the bottom...could be £250 in it with You've Been Mamed

good luck with it dude, i know how u feel

Quick tip: I always carry my tick off card in my jacket when i'm up there, just incase they question me ! As some of the others said tho, some peeps using the slope can't even stop, so i think the MK dudes have got bigger fish to fry then us that don't make the links on every run !

Happy boarding

sounds like the best bet tbh.

Although nothing ever beats a trip away, there you get miles and miles of practice!

I'm going to Hemel on the 10th July (next friday) for the session if you're up for a ride.
