nice one - they're having an awesome season so far out there, especially in Canterbury.

I think most of the answers are probably buried in this thread somewhere, but if you've got a week in Queenstown, just a case of avoiding the crowds and keeping up with the snow reports. If it's all looking a bit busy, a drive up to Ohau (2.5 hours from QT) is well worth it for a distinctly-Kiwi place to ride (and I will be very jealous!). Wouldn't bother with Treble Cone (TC) unless it's dumped - can be a bit lame if not.

As Chorlton says, get a heli trip in if you can - one of the best (value) places to do it, even though exchange rate isn't as good as it used to be.

enjoy, update us on here with how conditions are...

p.s. unless you're visiting family/friends/going sailing in Winter, don't spend too long in Auckland - just another big city - down south is where it's at!
Everyone's hung their boots up. Arse.

Quoted for truth! We love Ohau!!

Remarks is good if the snow's there..... Reasonable park, for steeps make sure you hike up the chutes above the shadow chair!

Cardrona is a good fun mix of everything... great park, fun bowl out at captains, some steeps in the middle.

Snow park if you like your park.... some of their features are just silly huge!!

Coronet Peak.... You wont miss anything if you dont make it up there.... good for Night's (Fri/Sat?), get out onto Greengates for the more fun stuff.

Cantab Club fields.... These can be insane if the snow's on... most dont own a groomer and are powered by super tractor-powered rope tows (google "Nut-cracker"!).... Just make sure you pick a field where you ride the lift facing the rope!

25% off with a TC season pass.

I'm heading to New Zealnd for the first time this year and have been trawling through this old beauty for info.
I'm currently looking into jobs with the hills as I'd prefer to have a job lined up rather than just rocking up blind. Ideally (obviously) something that allows me as much mountain time as possible.

What are the working hours like if you work for the company running the hill and are there any jobs really worth looking into or avoiding?

Any info would be brilliant, especially websites/contacts for any possible employers.

Try the websites of the resorts you are after and apply, think the closing date is coming up or even passed now so be speedy!

The smaller club fields have jobs too so don't forget them too. I think Ohau would be a sweet job as they have some accomodation on the hill, but not sure if you'd live in them, but imagine first chair there!

The bigger more commercial ones like Concrete Peak, Unremarks and Mt Shutt via nzski.com

and another question...

What are the shops like down there? Is there a decent selection of snowboard shops in Queenstown and Wanaka?

I need new board and boots, am I better sorting them in the UK or when I'm out there considering I'll need a wide freestyle board (had ordered a DC PBJ 159w but it's since fallen through) and size 12 boots.

Yep a fair few shops, Cheapskates and Base. Make sure you visit Chop in Wanaka next to the sushi shop Sasanoki.

Maybe they got some beermitts left.
