Revision #1 (Last edited: 22/08/2010 @ 23:11)
So this been my first post an' all, I suppose this would be the bit where I say "Hi everyone, I'm new!", but that would only be partly true, so I'll just say Hi y'all.

Truth is, I'm not new to snowboarding by a long shot. I struggle to remember dates, but I make it about 5 years (give or take) since I first stepped on a board at the world class winter sports resort, Cas, have been on a few real mountains here and there, and have been a member of *ahem* another UK based snowboard club type forum for the duration, but have found pastures new, it seems. The last year or so has been a bit hit and miss with only a couple of trips to the fridge to blow off the cobwebs, but after a trip to Cas on Thursday I think I'm hooked again, and it feels good to be back Nailing that first rail on Thurs felt as good as I remember it feeling the first time I ever successfully 50/50'd a railed all them years ago, and I've been grinning ever since.

It seems my re-emergence to the sideways fun has coincided with the time of year I used to look forward to all year, but forgot all about - END OF SEASON SALES! Aaww yeah, my timing couldnt have been better, and I'm now finding myself eyeing up a new board and bagging myself a bargain. Now it's been a while since I last picked up a copy of Whitelines (etc) so my product knowledge isn't quite what it used to be, this is where you lot come in...

Basically, after narrowing the selection down a little, I found myself checking out a Ride Concept TMS and a Prophet, and testing them by the trusty bendy test, but don't know which one I'd be petter parting with my readies for. I've looked up a few reviews that the tinternets has to offer, and both seem to get good marks, so I'm torn really. So the question is; Which deck?

I'm all sorted with a freestyle / jib board thanks to my trusty Dominant so don't need anything to tackle that department, but after retiring my old Allian Pro Series last year after a hard life, I'm in need of a new piste charging powder hunter that can hack the odd kicker here and there (better than I can at least). So what do you reckon, of the two, which am I better taking out for a test drive next Thurs? - there is no wrong opinion

Cheers in advance,
Dan

Just bought a Buron Custom which should do the job you require however If I could have afforded it then I would have gone for the Neversummer evo-r Clicky

I've not used my custom yet so can't really comment on it, but I got the Vrocker so the front lifts naturally therefore floating on Pow, and also means it's pretty flexible for pressing boxes etc. I imagine the board is also going to be a bit more catch free while spinning off some kickers too. I really like the graphics on both the never summer and the burton. But Neversummer is supposed to be superior.

Good luck.

If you're not 100% set on a Ride board then a Never Summer board would be a good choice. I however would recommend an SL-R as an all mountain charger rather than the Evo which is a little softer.

I agree with Bob on the NS front. The SL is a great stick, but if you want something that's a more of a piste and off-piste machine then look to the Heritage, Premier F1, and Titan.

It's between the Concept and the Prophet really as these two boards are on sale at my local shop with a decent wedge knocked off, so it's less "recommend me a board" as it is, which one of the two?

6 in one, half dozen in the other. Both boards are for pretty much the same type of terrain and don't ride that differently. The Prophet is basically the old Havoc (which wasn't half as good as the pre-2007 Prophet) whereas the Concept TMS is a shell of the old Timeless. I would much rather ride a 5 year old Prophet or Timeless over the newer ones.

x2 on the good old days of no-sh*t Ride all mountain boards. 0304 Prophet, any old Timeless...fond memories.

Well as far as I'm aware, they dont sell 5 year old boards in the shop. So, anyone got an opinion on either of the two boards that I am looking at?

Dude, whichever one you pick, it's going to be nice. Who gives a sh*t really apart from you, anyway? You're the only one who knows which one you feel drawn to more, be it graphics, a line in a review you read, how your bindings look on one rather than the other.

Your life is not going to be any different choosing a prophet over a concept. You aren't going to be able to land a cab five because you bought one not the other. So buy the one you prefer and go ride it, please...

By that logic, I'd buy the cheapest desk I could find that "looked good" . But yeah, think I'm set on the Prophet, after reading up a bit more, it seems bit more suited to what I'm wanting from a new board.

Now I wonder if TSA will sell me the demo board for a fat discount? Was looking at it over the weekend, and it's never even had bindings fitted.

I am indeed! They've got last years Prophet marked down to £270 from £400, so I'm going to offer to buy the one i'm going to demo tomorrow.
