I went mountain biking in whistler yesterday and it was sooooo fun!!! Didn't go near the park, but went thru some super cool trails all around the village. I think i may have found a summer sport...

Although i think i need a better seat

I've been out quite a bit this week - Did 23 miles off road yesterday. I'll get a new hard tail in a couple of months when the new 06 range arrives in the shops (I plan to get a few hundred quid off this one in August)...

Sorry, I meant that's the bike I am thinking of buying in August. When the new '06 range hits the shops, the current model (the one in the photo) will probably drop by around £300 to make way for the new model/colour.
I've had my eye on the Stumpjumper Pro Disc for a while, its about my favourite hard tail I've seen (that I can justify the money for). Would be nice to have a Full-Susp too but for most of the Cross Country stuff I do I think I'll be able to get away with that StumpJumper. I might be selling a 'very' good condition RockHopper Comp Disc (2002 or 2003 model) when I do get the new one if anyone's interested

I'll do some pics later in the week. Its a 17" Frame, very light, mainly Black with red. I spent about £1k on the current one. Would prob want to sell it for around the £500 mark.
It doesn't have any spoke decor on this one though Drew
I'll try to sort out some pics and proper spec soon though.

not meaning to thread hi-jack, but anyone got any recommendations for real good disc brakes?.... currently running Hope Minis (which I thought we the dogs nads back in the UK) but finding they're just not cutting the mustard out here... or more to the point, they're not stopping me as the large dark purple bruise on the side of my hip keeps reminding me!

Was thinking about upgrading to the Hope M4's or even the 6's if I can find the budget but just wondered if anyone's used any other makes???

Calling on the GB bikers for some easier-to-understand bike knowledge than that found on the MTB forums..

I'm in the market for a hardtail, but having been out the game for quite a while riding my 'Y Frame' I feel like I did when I started boarding - only 10 times more confused!

I've always liked the look of the Specialized's but can't stretch to a bike costing 3 times what my car did (!) like the Starnz, so I've been looking at the..

Hardrock Pro Disc @ £399.99 w/ Marzocchi MZ Comp, Shimano cable disks. '05.

Like the look of it. Cheap. Decent looking components.

Claude Butler Cape Wrath Disc @ £499.99 w/ Rock Shox Judy TT, Clarks hydraulic disks.

Liking the look of this one too, probably more, won the MTBUK test, hyrdaulic disks over cable but never heard of Clarks, or Truvatic components.

But then there's the temptation of a Rockhopper Disk from '04 @ £599.99..

Has anyone ridden any of them or have any opinions on the quality of them in relation to their prices?

I'd rather buy ready-to-ride rather than upgrading components, and brakes and front suspension are probably of most importance, along with weight.

Riding mostly South Downs XC with plenty of road riding.

All reasonable bikes for the money. I would stay away from the Hardrock Pro tho - cable disks are not worth the bother.

The Claude Butler is a bargain and a great bike in that price range. Mate of mine has last year's one and is well impressed with it. Has been ridden all over - big stuff in Wales + the Peaks and takes it all.

Truvativ are a well-known brand, making loads of components, esp. cranks. The Clarks discs are also sposed to be good.

If you can still get a hi-spec 04 bike for a good price then go for it, but i wouldn't have thought there'd be that many around now.

So, yeh, go for the Claude Butler in that price range!

Thanks Mr Sloth.

Checked out the Specialized today and liked it, but the CB is looking like better value for money so I'll just have to find one somewhere to check it out, then it should be a go.

Can't wait.

It's kinda what you want to pay fowler, and what's important to you to a certain extent.
I want the Cannondale F800 tho Starnzy. That super stiff and long travel lefty fork w/ lock out makes me drool. I test rode the '04 and '05 models, what a bike! I don't know if they got me with their good advertising or what, but I'm sold on Cannondale's shock system now.
