#1  Milky Way or Espace Killy????  Posted 07/09/2010 @ 09:56
Hi folks

In need of some urgent advice as time is creeping on and I have nothing booked yet. I am looking at these two areas for my trip next Feb (half term unfortunately), and am not sure which to choose. I have read the theads about layouts etc of the Milky Way, which is kinda making me lean towards Tignes maybe... I am looking for info on

* Decent area... we are 4 intermediate level riders and like lost of terrain to play in...
* Price... It is bad enough we are going in half term so don't really need to break the bank anymore...
* Accessibility... We would rather somewhere which is easy to navigate and not have to worry about closures of lifts, connecting runs due to lack of snow and it goes without saying, the less flats the better...
* Apres... We are getting past the whole party till we drop thing now but nonetheless, we still like a good beer or several...

Thx loads in advance for all your help.. One final thing... Where would you fly to to get to the Milky Way?

Thx folks

I'm busy planning our groups holiday for next Feb, and have also been looking at Milky Way. One thing which I keep reading about this area is that there are ALOT of drag lifts.

I think Italy is your best bet though, France (Especially Tignes - although I've never been myself) is going to be expensive in resort.

Ohh Drags... If this is true then I guess we can write this one off... I hear what you are saying about the expense but going in half term is unfortunately something we have grown accustomed to...

Thx

I've got Livigno booked in half term. Looks great, and not too expensive for half term. (about £600 each for accommodation). Booked through Neilson, so organisation is done for us.

I can deffinately recommend the SkiWelt area www.skiwelt.at/en

The villages are Soll (Prob the most lively), Itter, Scheffau, Elmau.....

The area is pretty quiet but both times I've been we've had great snowcover.

I did originally think about the skiamade area but again seems a little disjointed to get around... Wont have a car and dont want to have to bus everywhere... Although Austria does interest me...

Thx again

Saalbach is great, 200km, lifts are very modern, except 1 or 2 drag lifts that you can avoid, superb scenery and crazy apres and nightlife.

If you have the budget you can also try Ischgl, more than 200km, much higher, busy apres and you can ski to Switzerland. More expensive though.

I don't know of many areas/resorts in Austria that are linked by ski runs but a lot of the resorts in the valleys are covered on the same lift pass. I went to Myerhofen over half term time in 2007 and it was awesome! You can get a bus or the train up the Zillertal valley to try some of the other resorts as they were covered on the lift pass for at least a day. I went back, don't remember paying but I was troughing the Lemsips so all a bit of a blackcurrent haze!!!

Ser Che in France has a big ski area as well, with the ability to use the area on the Italian border (Montgenevre?) as well. Cheaper than most big resorts as not as popular/lively. Les Arc can be good as well. Stay in Bourg for cheaper food/accomodation and get the fanicular up each day. Good area as well.
