#1 looking for a new board, any suggestions???? Posted 23/02/2010 @ 09:32 |

looking for a new board as my 07/08 custom was destroyed by baggage handlers on the way back from the alps.
i had a custom 156 which i loved and i want to get something all mountain/free ride. i'm not really interested in park stuff like jibbing and buttering and stuff but i do like taking jumps in and around the powder or if i find stuff around the piste. i want something thats really fast and stable, and good offf and on piste. i'm looking at more advanced boards than my old custom as if i have to get a new one i'd rather upgrade it.
stuff that i've looked at and has been suggested so far is:
custom x 156 k2 zero 156 nitro blacklight 157 arbor a frame 158
the custom x is v expensive and i wouldn't want to spend more than that (£600!)
i'm not sure if the arbor would be a bit big as i'm only 5'7 and weigh about 67/68kg. i've been really struggling as a lot of the boards that seem to be what i'm after are 159's or above which i think would just be too big for me.
has anyone ridden any of these boards or have you got any other suggestions? |

You could add to your list to consider the Never Summer SL- R or the Premier F1 I would think going by the size of boards you haved listed below that a 155-157 would be suitable for you.
I have posted this before on GB and cant recommend these boards enough. The ride is just amazing, the balance between the camber and rocker is about as close to perfect as you will get. I really do think that NS have mastered this feature this year. Both boards are realy responsive, the Premier F1 is biult for fast speeds and you will not feel out of control. The SLR leans more to the park/freetyle/mountain kickers, where as the Premier is a freeride board.
Fully expect to see Never Summer stocked in TSA & Snow and Rock and other major national shops within the next winter or two. The brand has really grown massively since inception and their built quality is exceptional. All designed and biult in Denver Colorado.

I'd second the NS SL-r also, it truely is an awesome board, its got plenty of pop for those kickers, soft enough for a bit of buttering and unbelievably stable at speed. I absolutely love this board! |

I ride a Never Summer Revolver and as the others have said the boards are great. Maybe have a look at an SL-R 155 or Evo 156. |

i haven't really heard much of never summer before but i've found some good reviews of their boards.
i quite like the look of the premier f1-r, the others seem to be a bit more freestyley.
do you think that this would be a step up from my old custom?? |

I have not had the chance to ride a Burton in a long time so I would not really be able to say yea or nae on that question! - There are many Burton riders on this forum so someone else may be able to say.
But anyone that gives me feedback on NS boards do say that its rides better than anything they have before. I have tried the Premier in around 3ft of powder and loved it. Its very responsive unreal control on the snow. |

It'd be a massive step up from a soft custom. I'd suggest an SL-R or Heritage-R would be better. |

Lib-tech trs. I have been riding one all season and i love it! One problem tho i tore a huge gouge out of the base. But any way i really recomend it. Its probably the best all rounder iv ever ridden. |

Blacklight is good, the Zero isn't worth thr money over the Slayblade until next season. Both the SL-R and Heratige-R are fantastic. |

Given the fact SL-Rs in a 155 or 158 are probably impossible to get hold of at this point in the season, and the fact you want a board for speed, off piste, jumps and powder, I would recommend the NS Premier-R 157 or 159. |

QUOTE (hutchy - 26/02/2010 @ 01:35) The SL-R does great all mountain including riding powder whereas the Premier could be too stiff and heavy coming from a Custom. is the premier a heavy board then? i'm after something stiffer and just a bit more, i suppose hardcore than my old custom. reading the gumpf about the sl-r it seams to be more of an all rounder than the premier and i think i'm really looking for more of a piste and powder machine! |

the premier is not a heavy board. it is stiffer than an SL though.
If i am going away and can take only 1 board, i would go for an SL. If i can take two it would be an evo and a premier.
If your not a confident rider into going really fast then premier probably isnt for you. look at the SL. Premier cant be beat though if you want to bomb around and kill pow |

On the otherside, bought a NS-SL 5 years ago. Never rode that well for me. Completely lost all its pop after 15 days. Very heavy. Nowdays its my rock hopper. Seen a lot of edge damage but still has not split. Because it's like a noodle it feels lovely in pow. Did I mention it was heavy? |
