Never Summer did have a reputation for being heavy (albeit bombproof). The current boards are light though. Things have come a long way. I dont think anyone would say a current NS board is heavy.

Also agree with the Never Summer salutes,...the SL-R is a sweet, sweet board, highly recommended.

Others with a good all mountain feel that I've ridden recently were the Burton Supermodel, Bataleon Goliath and Ride DH2.

Haven't ridden the Premier, I actually ride the Evo-R, mates have trialled the SL-R. Comparing the NS and Burton Supermodel is pretty tricky, the Burton is regular camber and the NS boards are Camrock, with the rocker giving a bit more float in pow and ease of tail/nose pressing. So they do feel very different but it depends what you want.

Personally, I'm a real Never Summer convert and on the dangerous edge of becoming a fan boy: 3 years warranty, bomb proof, tonnes of fun, sick graphics, small company. All good things.
