Snowboarding at last!! 
Went up a little late today, just as the sun was starting to break through. And I was on the snowboard!!!
First time boarding this season and I quickly realised how much I have missed it. Started off easy on my own on the Mont Blanc blue and a little off piste down the side, then over to the Cachette and the same again. Finally up the Clocheret Chair and down the blue and across the off piste to ...join some friends in the Snow Park. The park is still being added too. The mega jumps are just being finished. The wall, rails, red and green jumps and one black are all finished and there is an easy boardercross course as well. Plus the air bag of course (when it is open)!
The pistes were in great condition after the freshen up from last nights snowfall and the off piste was light powder sometimes untracked yet again.
After a few jumps in the park (my friends, not me. My knees cannot take that anymore. Doctors orders!!) we headed off piste for the rest of the day. Did some fun routes from above the Clocheret Chair off the Comborciere ridge, over in the national park off Lanchettes, down through the secret forest and finally back to the Funi via the Malgovert forest.
The off piste was in great condition again today and we were able to find plenty of places to make fresh tracks. More snow is forecast for tomorrow. This winter is just getting better and better!!! Hurry up and get out here.
If anyone needs a place to stay I know a few people that are willing to rent there places out. Sizes from 2 person studio to sleeping 12 and one that can take 24 I think. Send me a PM if you need to know more. But be quick as they are filling up fast. Hope that helps! |

Hi Chris, heading out on the 10th of march, maybe a couple of us could hook up with you for a bit of local powder knowledge? (hopefully still be some then!!) or if not possibly recommend where to go?

Good to be back in Les Arcs today and doing some of my favourite routes. Despite the strong winds of the last few days we still managed to find some good snow and even a little powder in sheltered areas. :D
Only went up late so headed straight over to the Arc 2000 bowl via a little warm up couloir. Steep but fun!! My boarder friend today thought, hmmm!! And this is just the warm up!!! :twisted:
Then up the Varet for a little more training before heading over to the National Park above Villaroger for something a little more challenging. By not stopping we managed to fit in a days riding in an afternoon with two trips down through the park and another side route from the top of Malgovert back to Arc 1600 and a nice hot chocolate rum at the Beguin Bar before heading home.
We did not do many pistes today, but what we did do were in good condition, firm and packed, but not icy. The off piste was a real mix. Sometimes light powdery snow. At other times, wind blown crud and finally firm grippy chalky snow which I do quite enjoy. 
Overall the snow is holding up well although now we are spoilt and want more fresh powder. They say it will snow again over the coming days so we should be in for more powder riding before the end of next week!! I HOPE!!
It was not very cold at first whilst in the sun today, but by late afternoon it had become quite chilly again in the shaded areas. My new heated socks are great!! The forecast is for stronger winds at first tomorrow so we shall just have to wait and see! 8-)

On my Snowboard again today. I do like riding the powder at high speed. We met up a little later to give the -14 forecast a chance to warm up and the clouds to clear. We were not disappointed. Headed over to the Arc 2000 bowl via the snowpark and a few short off piste runs to arrive at the Grand Col. Then spent some time in the off piste both sides of the chairlift finding some nice powder which was not to tracked out.
Then it was time to head into the back country. After going down in the direction of the Mont Pouri refuge we hiked up the ridge and rode all the way down to Nancroix on good powder and a fun track with plenty of banked bends to play on.Then back across Les Arcs from the top of the Derby by a slightly different route to normal arriving from the off piste only 50m above the Vagere chair. Finally stopping off at the Altiport for a drink before a last run down a gully to Arc 1600 and then the Violettes piste for a to Les Granges and home.
The resent snow had stayed in good condition on the more sheltered off pistes areas which gave us some good powder and all the pistes we used were in excellent condition. The forecast is for this cold sunny spell to continue so the snow should remain good for the next few days.

Went up a little late today and after riding around a little to get the feel of my board again, headed up the top of the Arpette to have a look over into the Arc 2000 bowl. The vis was still not that great and the sun was only really shinning at the top so went over to the Blanche Murree to meet up with friends. We then headed off to ride around the Peisey Vallandry area where the light was better.
Finally going back towards Arc 1800 and then Arc 1600 trying a few off piste areas, but until we reached the Malgovert forest most of the snow was hard packed crud which had frozen last night and not really melted due to the clouds blocking out the sun for most of the day.
We managed to find a few lips to jump safely (well the others did, not with my knees any more unless I really have too) and then finally after a short route through the trees arrived back at Arc 1600 and home.
All the pistes were quite hard packed and slippy in places today where they had been re-frozen and not really melted again. The off piste was not that great unless we stayed in the shady areas and even then it was still very firm and bone rattling. Despite the conditions we still managed to have a fun time and I rode more pistes on my board today than I have all season, so good for the technique. I hope tomorrow the sun comes out again to soften the snow a little.

Today was another powder day. Yes the powder is back and should still be good tomorrow as well.
We headed up quite early despite the poor vis and went over to the Arc 1800 via some nice off piste to test out the snow. Although it was hard to see where we were going at times the snow was great so went to the 'secret forest'.
Had it all to ourselves all morning. We just kept putting new lines down new routes in the trees until we needed a break for lunch. I did not think I would get another chance to do that this season so was very happy.
After lunch the sun tried a bit harder to break through so headed up the Aiguille Rouge and off piste down the glacier and then the Robert Blanc couloir. Excellent powder again well over 15cm, maybe even as much as 20cm in places.
Finally headed over to Droset and more fresh tracks top to bottom and over to the Malgovert forest. By heading through the cliffs we had another fresh tracks route and carried on down in good soft snow until we joined the Mont Blanc piste lower down and headed home.

After a few days visiting other ski areas we have now returned to Les Arcs Paradiski area. Here is what we have been doing over the last couple of days.
Yesterday (Friday), was a trip over to the Omelette restaurant in Mont Albert using mainly pistes. A large group of 23 had a nice trip all the way to Mont Albert including a little off piste from the Verdons piste across and down the Indian gully into Plagne Centre before a great lunch and then an easy route home with just a little play on one of the steeper sections back in Les Arcs for those wanting a challenge before a final drink in George's Wine Bar in Arc 1950 and then home. A total of approx 80kms.
Today (Saturday) as it was changeover day so we headed out in the morning on very empty pistes. As the vis was quiet bad at times we decided to put off our trip to the Bellecote North Face until the weather improves.
Instead we went on a little tour over to Champagny via Bellecote La Plagne and a little off piste run down from the top of the ridge left of the Verdon Sud Chair on spring snow although becoming rather hard to turn on at times.
After a few more pistes we had lunch then started to head for home. On the way we went through the tunnel from the Roche du Mio to Bellecote La Plagne and then the waterfall off piste gully down towards Les Coches which has now had a small slide. Despite the slide the snow in the gully was in better condition than other places we went today and we had a good trip all the way to the forest and back onto the piste.
Finally over to the Altiport above Arc 1600 for a drink before home. Despite the snow that was falling outside some people were still trying the waterslide as I guess it was their last day (very cold) .
The pistes all across Les Arcs and La Plagne today were in good condition for this time of year. Hard packed in the morning and becoming softer and slushy by the afternoon. If you check the aspect of the slopes you can still find good snow both 'on and off piste' throughout the day. More snow is falling this evening so it should be a good day tomorrow if the vis improves. We shall see! |
