thinking of taking an epic boarding trip with a large groupe of mates to lake tahoe in late feb early march 2011 for 14 nights! was just wondering if anyone had been and experianced it? and could recomend one the seven resorts there to base ourselves! looking for some powder tree runs and also a few days in the park! we are a group of inertmediate/advanced riders!
any ideas would be helpful!

I hate you..
Dude, that sounds sweet!
I've heard that Heavenly and Squaw Valley are the best choices, thats what I heard from some American boarders while I was in Whistler.
Enjoy!

Heavenly is awesome, and not that expensive. There are loads of great tree runs and powder, although I wasn't into the park at that time so can't comment on that one. Town is excellent too, loads to do and with the border with Nevada running through the middle of town there are a load of casinos there too which makes for a top night.
Fly into San Fran and cap the trip off with a few days there to as it's a wicked city, it's only a 3hr drive from the airport and if you want some different scenery then Yosemite is a pretty easy stop to make.

Nice! Tahoe is one of my all time favourites. Heavenly is a good shout for a base. When we went in 08 we rented a place in South Lake Tahoe (5 mins from Heavenly) which apart from being decorated in a classic 80's stylee was comfy and had the all important outdoor hot tub. If you've got a good size group of you going you should be able to find some pretty good deals on rentals.
We stayed on the Cali side which is a bit more chilled, but like the previous post said it's right on Nevada line so there's plenty of nightlife there.
There's some epic tree riding at Heavenly (as with most of the Tahoe resorts tbh) but I didn't hit the park there either. If you wan't to ride park you've got to hit up Northstar, the place is a joke! There are just parks and features all over the place. Pre-booked our passes through Ski Safari which had pretty decent rates at the time.
All the resorts are pretty much within an hours drive so you could probably do most in 2 weeks on a multi-resort pass. Oh yeah, Vegas is only an hour flight from Reno too!!

hey -
I was in Tahoe this year - awesome place all round. My mate and I loaded up a hire car and drove from San Fran.
The places we went:
Boreal (nr Truckee) - small resort but GREAT for the park and was cheap for an afternoon pass.
Squaw Valley - great back country and awesome tree runs
Alpine Meadows - great back country
Northstar - park and Burton Stash... say no more.
Heavenly - we got lucky and had two feet of pow so couldn't complain
Overall it's an absolutely awesome place to be. We had a day of storms (just before our big powder day) which was a bugger given the relatively short trip. I'd also say that ski passes are pretty steep overall - 80 dollars a day is about average if you buy on a daily basis.
Tahoe City is quite sleepy but the locals are really friendly and the beer is goooood!
Sorry if I've gone on a bit :/

Like the others have said, Tahoe is awesome. I've been to Heavenly and Kirkwood, and had insane amounts of snow both times. This was me:
Heavenly is the largest resort & town, and has the most cheap accommodation & nightlife (bars, casino's & clubs) in Tahoe, so that's the obvious choice for a base. Heavenly has tonnes of trees to play in. Once we'd tried a few we never went back. Apart from Killebrew Canyon I don't think I did any actual runs all week.
Didn't try the park(s) though. You can get to all the other resorts in less than an hour by car, or by boat on organised day trips. There's lots of accommodation to choose from. We stayed in the "Forest Suites Resort" (
www.forestsuites.com
). Cheap and cheerful condo's in a great location - right under the gondola. You can wave to the masses from the hot-tub...
