Anyone ridden in La Plagne when the resort opens mid Dec. I know it's dependent on snow but some resorts put more effort into the early season than others.

Cheers

In reply to post #1 ...
Never been that early before, you might get lucky, earliest I've been was 3rd jan and it was touch and go then - however the week before had seen a reasonable powder dump just before Xmas - It's unlikely to have much of a base who knows what will happen this season.

It's not something I'd book in advance, I guess it depends on what you want out of your trip. If you're relatively novice and looking to cruise piste then you might get away with it, if you're looking for fields of pow then the chances are that even if you do get a dump the off piste will just trash your board or be otherwise unridable.

If you're after pow then it may seem counterintuitive but the lower resorts in places like Morzine are a great bet. Since loads of the off piste around that area is green fields you don't need the frozen base quite a much and can get a decent area open with only a couple of good snowfalls.

I'd still leave it though and book the week before if it looks good or save the time and go later in the year. You'll pay more but it'll probably be worth it.
