1. Clean the base (I use solvent, you can do a hotwax with cheap wax and scrape off, it does the same job)

What solvent do you use?
Piste - park - pipe - pow, I love it all.

Its not advisable to use a solvent, these can react with the base and create permanent closure of the pores. If that happens you will not be able to wax properly.

This is pretty cheap for a specialist cleaner:

Im just advising, your more than welcome to try it.
We do see this quite often, you will notice it when polishing the wax out. The wax finish will look very patchy and sometimes dull.
At the least, if your going to look for a product not specifically designed for the job then look for a citrus enzyme based cleaner.

i am not criticising your advice, just questioning the statement you made about solvent closing the pores.

as a respected servicing company if you make a statement like that then people will take it as fact.

if it is a fact then there should be evidence available to support it.

microscopic photo's of closed pores or something similar.

Looks like your question is already answered about waxing your board. But if you have any other questions you should check out youtube. I practically learned everything about snowboard maintenance there. They have hundreds of tutorials to check out about anything. For Real..
