#1 Just bought some Special Blend pants & have a few questions... Posted 10/08/2010 @ 09:51 |

Both me & my OH have just bought some Special Blend pants and now they've arrived they don't appear to have the features that were on the advert - that are also repeated on the attached Special Blend info card. Some of it could be me misunderstanding the blurb, some of it maybe not.
Anyway the terms I need a definition of are: "gusseted crotch" and "ride/relax gaiter system".
The missing feature is "hip vents" in both cases - I assume this means vents on the outside leg seam, the inner thigh vents are there ok.
The pants are the "Commander" and the "F1 Mark". Think they're 2008 gear so picked them up super cheap, buit that's not the point if they're misdescribed.
Anyone else have these pants or know what the deal should be?
Thank you for your help folks |

You cant beat Special Blend pants mate, thats all I ride these days as I like the fit and they are pretty much bomb proof!
Anyways, your actual questions:
I'm not 100% sure on this 1, but I think "gusseted crotch" refers to the stitching pattern around the crotch area. Something to do with being stitched with an extra bit of fabric in a diamond shape as it makes it stronger. I worked in a tailors when I was at uni (a looooong time ago) and thats what I can remember from there.
"ride/relax gaiter system" I think is the gaiter under the leg that comes over your boot. Certainly my Special Blends all have these. The Ride / Relax bit might be referring to either the stud clip that mine have which make them tight (for riding - to keep the snow out) or loose for off the mountain, though mine also have a wee bit of Velcro on the inside that you can hook the gaiter to in order to stop it dragging in the crud as you walk. Just guessing though, not really sure. |

The rise/relax gaiter system. Is two cords that run from the bottom of the pants into the front two pockets. When your off the board you pull the cords in the pockets to pull up the bottom of your pants up off the ground. |

Ok, well given those answers I'm a bit confused by the pants then. I'm gonna have a closer look at them again when I get home from work tonight - the postie turned up at 7am with them this morning so I didn't get much chance to have a look before I needed to head out for work.
All the sales blurb including the tags attached to the pants says - gusseted crotch, ride/relax gaiters and hip vents ... but I saw no evidence of any of these three things when I gave the pants a quick once over this morning Plus these were three of the reasons why I bought these specific pants!!
PaulF, are these drawstring things pretty obvious in the pockets or do you have to go hunting for them?
Has anyone actually got these pants so I could compare?? Commanders and/or F1 Mark?? |

Don't know about your specific questions, but as a general point that I have quite often noticed when buying outdoor/snowboard gear - often, the specs quoted on the attached card refer to features present across the whole range and not necessarily the specific item the card is attached to which may have only some of the features specified. When posting itmes on their websites (I assume you bought on-line?), the retailer may just put the specs on exactly as they appear on the card and this may be what has happened in your case. |

Yeah I bought online, our local shop is all sold out of the styles we like. I think what you're suggesting is a possibility but the actual label on the troos says it all too and that label is a range specific one (Principal). The F1 Mark that my OH bought have the same lack of features and similar range specific label (Fader) detailing all the features too. Think I'll be asking some Qs of the shop tomorrow ... maybe you're right and they just don't put those features on these pants Bit disappointing though & essentially misselling from the shop too as the product is totally misdescribed - even if it is off the label. We shall see ... |

Iggie, yeah the cords are obvious when you put your hands on the front pockets you should feel the toggles at the bottom of the pockets. |

Ok, thanks for that PaulF ... yeah definitely no pull cords Can't find any actual real details out about the Special Blend outwear - their web site sucks big time, keeps saying "coming in Aug" ... it's August already!! |

If you've got pockets around the lower thigh then have a look there for the toggles, my Westbeach trousers have them there. Also see if there is a popper and strap inside the trouser as I have a pair of O'Neil trousers with that method of hitchin up the trousers. |
