At end of jan 2012 we and the other half are getting married. She was good enough to get marries in winter so we can have a snowboarding holiday.

We were thinking of trying to do both though. I was thinking of going to Canada/USA, I'm thinking maybe fernie/whistler/breckenridge! Anyway, after 7-10 days there we was hoping to arrange to go to around Mexico for again 7-10 days, to relax from hardcore snowboarding.

I was wondering anyone has done this? Any advice on any companies to use? How easy is it? And what the best (and cheapest way) of going about it e.g. Would it be easier and cheaper to fly from Canada to Mexico say and get our sun lugged sent to hotel ready for us nd send our ski stuff sent to family? Or would it be easier to come bcak to uk then just fly back out the next day??!

Any advice would be great as I don't know where to start! If nipped into first choice and they said it is possible to get your luggage sent etc.

Just wondered If anyone had done this and what there experience of sorting it and the holiday was

Cheers

It's worth popping in to a main high street place to see what they offer, but you'll get a far more informed idea from a tailor-made holiday specialist who is used to organising scheduled air routes. Easy enough to email 3 or 4 of these for a quote. Or if you want to go into a shop try places such as Trailfinders, STA, etc.

You might find a US airline which offers fares to mexico with stopovers permitted in the States. ( This will depend on the airline, your route and how expensive the fare is.) If you do get something like this you may then be able to take all the luggage and leave whichever one you are not using until you pass back through that stop.

In the end it will be a balance of cost against convenience. If you are on a tighter budget it would probably be better buying two separate trips, but if you are happier to spend to make the trip smoother go with someone who'll put together what you want. Obviously you can do all of this independently, but IMHO go with a company that ATOL/ABTA bonds the trips so you are covered should another volcano, company failure, etc occur.

Hope that helps a bit.

What about Japan and then Thailand/Hong Kong/Singapore/Vietnam/Cambodia

Do you really have more than 1 bag for both per person? That's a lot of travel time and/or expense just to have separate bags for bathers and jackets. Oh and at a guess it'd be cheaper going from USA to Mexico than Canada.

You could pair winter in Hokkaido with beach on Okinawa or Guam.

If you fly into the US, you'll prob have to fly back via the US.... US Immigration sucks balls and even with onward tickets it could be a problem... usually best if you have an in/out ticket from a US airport to the UK. (not saying it can't be done mind you)

If you fly into Canada, then onto Mexico (Not touching down in US) you could probably get a direct back from Mexico to the UK....

Cuba is also an option from Canada.....

Find a good independent travel agent or STA, etc who can string a bundle of flights together for you

As for luggage, just take your board to mexico.... It'll be worth it just for the photo ops!

Hi all, long-time lurker in these forums, but thought i'd wade in on this one...

I got married in the summer, and since my wife and I are both snowboarding mad we're heading to Lake Tahoe for Xmas and then driving down to Las Vegas for New Years - can't wait!

In specific response to your question though - companies such as Virgin Ski, Ski Safari, and Crystal do tailor-made "twin centre" trips for special occasions such as this.

One suggestion that we considered, that may get around your potential US border issue with mexico, is ski in Tahoe or Mammoth in California and then fly to Hawaii (still in US) for your sun?

Hope this info helps.

You could look at going to Lake Tahoe or similar, and then go to Maui in Hawaii? I've flown for Vegas to Maui and it was well worth it, Maui is the perfect honeymoon destination. From December until about March, whales go to Hawaii to breed, and you can go whale watching. I've been to a lot of sunny places in Asia but Maui is the most beautiful place I have ever been, and the weather is superb year round. Also no hassle with loads of visa's and jabs.
One day I'll rename myself steezyrider.......

Yeah, if your plan in the sun is just to be in one hotel, then you should take all your equiptment with you as it can just stay in your room. Only if you were to do some travelling would I post the stuff back.

I know a few folk who've been travelling and have had thier boards posted over mid trip for a few weeks and then sent back.
