Planning on Japan in 2018, probably for two weeks, but can't decide on where to go. The initial plan was to spend 5/6 days based in Niseko then head to somewhere in the Nagano area, although I have read that Niseko is just too busy these days.

I've looked at reviews on Powderhounds, but opinions vary greatly as you'd expect. Does anyone have any resort recommendations and how long would you recommend staying in one place before it starts getting dull? (A lot of the rideable areas look small on paper)

Also interested to know if anyone has used the bullet trains carrying a snowboard bag. Luggage storage looks limited. Any suggestions welcome.

I would stay in either Niseko or Hakuba for the full 2 weeks. The snow is that good you won't get bored.

Hakuba has loads of smaller resorts and the bus service between them is really good. Cortina on a powder day is insane but not really worth heading over if it hasn't snowed in a few days.
Hakuba has steeper terrain but it's far harder to access anywhere but Cortina.
I have used the bullet train with all my gear and it's not that bad.

We are heading to Niseko for a couple of weeks in January. Never been before but want to see what it's like.
