Hi all
I'm looking to go to Hakuba next Feb with my other half, but also want to combine this with a stay in Tokyo and/or Kyoto.
Does anyone know of any good tour companies that they have used for a similar trip?
Alternatively, did you do this trip but find it cheaper to do it independently (however I'm doubting it will be cheaper given transfer, flight costs etc)?
Finally, I've only boarded in Europe, so only know about Japanese resorts from what I've read on the internet - if you've been, would you recommend Hakuba, as I've heard good things??
Any help, much appreciated.
Cheers!! |

Hakuba is a great ski area can get busy especially on weekends due to its relative proximity to Tokyo etc but the ski area is huge. I'd strongly recommend looking at Niseko as another option.
There are a heap of companies doing package tours to Hakuba, Deep Powder Tours is popular and UK companies like Crystal Ski etc i'm sure someone else can recommend some others. But in my experience DIY is always cheaper but more time and effort.
When were you thinking of doing Tokyo and Kyoto. My suggestion would be check out Tokyo then head to Hakuba then come back and head down to Kyoto.
If you were to do it yourself i'd recommend a JR Rail pass which is a consecutive day pass, 7 days is about 28,300yen. Or the 4 day pass which is flexible and valid for a month and costs around 20,000 yen. To save money you could combine the 4 day pass with a airport limosine bus.
The train network rocks and will get you most places you need to go. Flights look at the usual suspects, JAL may have some cheap offerings given the financial issues they're having. Hotels might have some good deals given the economy check out expedia and tripadvisor for recommendations.
Here's a great thread to get inspired about Japan Click Here
If you do consider Niseko, Steve Kelso at Niseko Ski Tours, Australian based, is really helpful and with good packagesl: http://www.nisekoski.com.au/
A good thread for Niseko/Japan is Here |
