In all seriousness though it'd be nice to see some footage from this camera even if it is using the method pertinky described. I've considered getting one of these myself for next season.

Does it take stills? Can it be used like a regular handheld camera?

Cheers

I know the Hero operates as a 5mp camera (and by all accounts the sensor is pretty decent). I don't think the Contour does, although it might have a picture taking mode (picture every x seconds) - Most action cameras have this functionality.

I'd like to see some footage as well - the helmet cam we had this year (fixed as the Hero would be) was pretty terrible and took absolutely no decent footage! Partial blame has to lie with Red who thought that fixing it with rubber bands was a good idea!

What mounts does the Contour ship with? I've lways seen it mounted to the side which would be the best way to make sure you're filming what you're looking at!

Me & Face_Plant have a Contour HD ... it's wicked!! Don't think he's sorted out any of this years footage yet - still raw on the PC. Will see if he's got anything he's willing to post for everyone to see.

Yes I pretty much have been running around everywhere, house, garden the lot after rummaging around in the loft to find my helmet and goggles! My neighbours must think I'm a bit odd.

You can use it as a normal camera but it doesn't have a viewfinder or zoom.

I think the only way to get stills is by taking them off of the video.

I think the go pro hd was probably the better camera but the way it mounts to you helmet really put me off. It sticks out about 4 or 5 inches from the side of your head and just looks a bit like you strapped a standard camera to the side of your head!!

The footage I've taken so far is bloody good! Fantastic quality and you can change it from full hd through to standard def and there are some settings that give that fish eye effect thing.

Going to get mount to go on the handlebars of my bike. Got a race coming up in sept so I should get a good idea of what it is like then.

I've seen some videos that have been posted on the vhold website that have just been done by normal guys and it look really cool!

Tons of people in Utah had these this year, and I will be adding one to my toy collection this winter.

Video quality is really good.... the 1080p mode can be a bit overwhelming for your computer unless it is newish, so most people switch it down to 720p.

It comes with a sticky mount for permanent helmet fixing and a goggle mount. The camera detatches from the baseplate leaving the mounts in place.

Doesn't do stills.

Biggest tip I've heard is to point the camera up a little. Most people drop their head without realizing it and tend to get pictures of the snow!

Browse through the TGR ski/snowboard forum and you'll find loads of videos in the stoke and TR threads from last season.

That's what I didnt like about the GoPro, it's massive and I cant image very easy to fix to your head if you're not wearing a helmet and/or dont want a huge box strapped to your temple. Think the way froward for me will have to be one of these for video and my regular still camera in my pocket. Damn this snowboarding business is becoming technological!

EVERY helmet cam without fail makes you look like a div so why not buy the best one if youre gonna look stoopid anyway?

Best bit about the GoPro is its 60 frames per second recording and being waterproof to 60 meteres. Im getting one just for scuba diving.

Still the difference in form factor between the GoPro and the Contour is huge. Can you even mount the GoPro without a helmet? It looks too heavy and cumbersome for goggle mounting.

I'd say nerd rather than div!
As far as I am aware the contour is 60fps too. The only real difference is the waterproof thing, the stills, the viewfinder and it has very slightly better quality. On the downside is fookin mahoosive compared to the contour. The go pro looks like a little camera, which is fine if you want a camera kind of camera. But the contour is tiny and fits close to the helmet so won't get ripped off as soon as I deck it.

Been there, decked it (repeatedly) Contour HD still present & correct Plus upside of getting the whole sky-snow-sky-snow thing on video in perfect HD
