Revision #1 (Last edited: 08/08/2010 @ 11:08) |
Hi Guys,
I am 14.5 stone, 5'11" with a size 9 boot. I am intermediate level 2 and learning in the fridge. Instructor told me to buy a intermediate/advanced board so as to grow into it and no less. He also said don't buy longer than 156.
Forget the K2, what should i be looking for? Tips and advise welcomed kindly. |

The Darkstar is a fine plank but your instructor is a silly plank. At 14.5 stone you need a longer board. Darkstar in a 159 would be ideal or if you planned on losing weight (and actually did) you could sport a 157. Are you planning on ever leaving the dome? |

Thanks Grill,
At moment, its all about the dome, but it would be lovely one day to hit the great outdoors when i eventually get the chance. Asked in ellis bingham today, they said same as you grill, 155-160 for me. Shorter board for indoors and longer board for outdoor stability. (Losing weight , best laid plans and all that lot). 14 dead might happen with the new hobby. |

No longer than a 156? i agree with Grill, what a spanner!
I think that the darkstar is a wonderfull board in fact i have one. I think its the 159 you should be looking at.
If you want to ride something really short then i'd like a short, dome board your looking for at any point i'd think the 157 is as short as you should go. |

I have the Darkstar 157, I'm 5'11! and 12-7.
I have virtually NO problems with this board with exception that it can dig the nose in when on pow, but this is normally when my back leg is burnt out from leaning back. |

I have a 152 and I love it it's really nice and comfortable to ride even after 3hrs non stop. I can't walk properly after riding my other board for that long)
Good torsional flex (as in reasonably soft IMO), so it turns really really easily. In fact it might sound silly but sometimes I think the board is riding itself and i'm not actually doing much. Could be the sidecut.
The only problem I have is that the top sheet picks up dings very easily.
The base seems slower than my other board, but maybe it'll be better after a wax job. I needed it to be slower for use in the snowdome, anyway.
Sorry, haven't ridden it on a mountain yet so I can't really say much regarding that. But it'is really easy to ollie, nose/tail press.
hmmmmm... can't think of much else... It feels lighter than the board I was used to, too.
I'd recommend it to you, definitely |

That instructors a f*cking idiot. If you ever want to snowboard on a mountain don't get a 156 Darkstar, you'll fold it. |

This years darkstar is flat!! no more nose digging..
On behalf of the thread, i rode the k2 raygun and that board does everything and its such good value!!!!!! darkstar can be slightly flimsy at speed, but its not really made for gunning it!
I would be looking at either the raygun or go for its big daddy and get the Bamboyaahhhhh - k2 fastplant, that board rocks... |

I think a 161, but it could depend on the Darkstar's effective edge. |

Well with any luck I'll be on a Turbo Dream this season so then I'll have the Darkstar to play around on in the park. |

I've been on a Fastplant since March and it's a good stick. I've had another one sent out as mine's a proto but I'm sure it will be just as good. |
