OK, since i started snowboarding I've had my heart set on becoming an instructor. however im not to sure how to go about it
I've looked on several websites including base camp and a few others and i was debating doing one of those courses however, people have suggested saving some money and moving to a country of my choice and working my way up to instructor level?
Any suggestions or current instructors how have you got to where you are now.
Cheers Ryan

you can do BASI 1 that will allow you to teach begginers at any slope in the uk for about 5 or 6 hundred quid ish. However, to become a fully fledged advanced instructor costs thousands and takes months of lessons, you will have to do that on a real mountain as a lot of the course is mountains safety not just technique.

check out the basi website, plenty of information there and you can book your courses directly through them.

You've got expensive tastes Nick, did you really pay that for your BASI1? Mine was abou £4-500 all told. Well actually it was £300 and then a bit more for the conversion.

How did you get it so cheap? BASI list £450 for the 5 day L1 course alone. To get the full Level 1 you have the additional costs of an extensive first aid course and 35 hours lesson shadowing.

Price is for the course only through BASI - £380-£480

£105 for the First Aid course through BASP
£25 - Full CRB check

Shadowing you don't pay for.

Call me crazy but I hadn't intended to do the BASI 1 with any intention whatsoever of working as an instructor. More for the experience, the challenge and to improve my riding. Anyone else done the same?

You can do your CASI 1 in Andorra here and here's the dates and prices.

Pity that the English based company has added £120 on top of the CASI 1 course though
I've been all over the world, Ibiza, Magaluf, Blackpool etc and Tamworth was by far the best for snowsports!! It's intense man!!! You're totally gripped when you're at the top and looking down...

i did my CASI 1 last season for about £180 (price of course) at the time due to the exchange rate, and passed about a week after all the non stop people on an 11 week intensive course. and they had paid over £3000 for the privilege (excluding accom) . so as i was living with them you can imagine i was smug as you like, earning money at the same time as passing the 3 day course.

if your confident enough in your riding, i would say go and do a level 1 course. the course itself is a 3 day lesson, so they will continually be telling you the right technique for riding and teaching.

im heading out to banff to do my level 2 on 24th march. really bad timing with dissertation, physiology and one other assignment to submit and complete my degree. but i will be instructing next season, i am in no doubt of this!
