I think the problem with most resorts is that you don't get contracted hours or a salary - you just get paid the hours you work. You usually have to turn up at 8-8:30 and you might only get a couple of hours on quiet days.
In that case, you've been around most of the day for $30. That's why I went with a place that offered a stand-by rate. |

I did an instructor course with Base Camp Group and i really recommend that you go with them if you are interested. They do BASI 1 and 2 over one season in Val D'isere and Meribel. I did my course in Val d'isere a couple of years back and I am now using my qualification in holidays...
I'll give people more information if they need it... |

I was just wondering what a "qualification in holidays" is?? Does it teach you how to apply sunblock properly or that you shouldn't wear speedo's?? |

hey peeps,
I did a course with Basecamp in 2005 in Val D'Isere. I loved it! But you'd hope so for how much fricking money it costs!
Basecamp aren't actually the most expensive, I saw a course in new zealand for about 12,000 US dollars for 12 weeks! or might have even been more!
It's a lot of money to spend considering you earn bugger all as an instructor.
If you want to earn ok money you need to do up to Level 3. There's quite a big jump in opportunites once your a full cert. But it costs another 3000 pounds! Just in course fees! doesn't even take into account the money you have to spend attending the courses!
The cheapest way is AASI for sure. They may not have quite as much worldwide recognition, but if your saving about 3000 quid. |

Bit of a thread revival here.
I'm interested in doing the NZSIA level 2. I've read through this thread, but there's next to no info about the NZSIA quals.
I've been on the NZSIA home page and know what dates the courses are and where they are being held etc, but I'd like to know: what level they sit at in comparison to BASI/CASI/AASI, which countries recognise them and how well thought of are they?
Any information would be appreciated. |

I am thinking of doing an instructor course in 2012 and I want to do both snowboarding and skiing at the same time. I've also looked at the various courses available and had a good look at all the UK companies. The best courses seem to be the Canadian ones as you can progress quickly and teach all mountain with a level 1 qualification. The biggest bone of contention is the distance to the slopes. Most courses involve long journeys to the slopes and I would prefer to be in resort. Having scrolled around and discussed the finer details with most companies and I think I will go with The Winter Sports Company. They operate out of Sun Peaks and you can snowboard to the door. I am still open to options though so if anyone can come up with something better please let me know. |
