alrighty,

so i've been trawling through the forums looking up boards and stuff for the past few weeks and i've found a second hand burton charger going. I used the burton gallery site so i think it's 1999 model, so i was just wondering what would be the ballpark figure for something like this, and of course:

how long should a snowboard last?

cheers

How long will something last? Totally depends on how often you use it and how you treat it when you do.

My main board is from 2002 and still going strong. I've just picked up a 2nd hand 2003 board for messing around on. I hope they'll last in excess of 10 years. Some folk I ride with have boards from even far back that are still their fave boards despite whatever tech has been invented since.
My next board is fingers crossed going to be a 2001 model (no I'm not kidding!)

As for the value on the Burton Charger, again it depends on the condition it's in and how it's been used. If in mint condition and not used/well kept - could actually be worth quite a bit. A well used board that age shouldn't set you back more than 30 quid really.

Snowboard condition, from my own experience a brand new board has perfect edges and despite my own attempts or having a professional service I can never get back to that perfect edge once a board has had a bit of use. Also the spring and flex of a board tends to ware with age/use. However the shape and geometery of a board remains unchanged. One of my fav powder boards is a Burton Asym Air from 1991 so thats a 19 year old board and I have used this board every year i've had it including a week of catboarding in 2003.

There again some folks need to change their board every season just to keep up with the latest graphic.

The board should easily last 100 days without becoming excessively soft, in comparison to its new state.

You'll get two full seasons worth of use out of a board with no bother if you're reasonably careful.

Personally I've never "worn out" a board. I broke the nose off one on a buried log (that hurt), but all the other boards I've ever ridden are just as ride-able as they ever were. I ride quite a lot.

Piste boards take more hammering than powder boards, but then they tend to be better made.

I suppose I take care of my gear: I don't ride over rocks with it, or rub the edges along rails and stuff...

I nearly always break boards or just fancy a new one before I wear them out.
