Revision #1 (Last edited: 14/01/2010 @ 12:38) |
Hey guys,
Im looking into training as an instructor level 2 in New Zealand...had a quick scout for jobs but couldnt really find any...how hard is it to find a job after you quailify? looking at jobs on actual mountains. Like to do Canada, Europe etc. I dont, and never will, ski, does this mean its going to be harder to get a job? and does the NZ qual mean you can teach anywhere else?
Any help well appreciated!

hiya Frenchy.
my experience from the North Only.
very few jobs available at the moment. most places filled their requirements way ebfore xmas.
Chill factore and Cas both have evenings in October where 8 instructors at a time go along. are watched riding, and give a quick mock lesson. both places have 4 or 5 of these nights so around 30 instructors get to try out.
after a week or two you recieie an email either saying thanks/no thanks and are possibly invited in for a one to one interview with head of snowschool.
you are then asked how many hours a week you would like to have, and then sit back and wait for a phone call.
Sheffield where i currently teach have a different system. you turn up and ask for the snowschool manager. explain what your after, she has a quck chat (informal interview) and if she likes your face your invited to shadow some of their lessons for a few days. she then discusses you with the tutors you shadowed, and if they are in agreement your offered a job. again you discuss how many hours you want. sit back and wait for the phone calls (txts)
it always varies upon demand. some weeks you may get 2 hrs offered. some other weeks 30 hrs.
pay is poor by the way. either minimum wage or close to it but there are benefits of free riding when your not teaching.
Hope this is useful. it was my experience only, Fatbob may have a different story as he is further south than I.
