Hi, I am wanting to buy a new helmet to replace my old cheapo helmet I use for BMX trails in the summer time. What are your views of the different brands ie Comfort and build quality. I like the look of the Pro Tech Audio and Red Hi Fi styles. Also my Dad can get hold of the UVEX brand helmets and goggles from a trade contact I havent these seen much over here but they seem big in the USA.
Let me know your experiences thanks.

You relaly need to try them on and buy the one that fits your head shape and your goggles the best.

Seconded

After seeing the Mrs catch her heel edge and save herself from certain head trauma by wearing a lid i'd highly recommend one.

Are there any shops in this country that have a wide selection. The places I go only have a few and they are all for people with spherical heads, so there's a lot of space at the sides for a helmet that fits my head

Although there are some haters out there, Snow and Rock normally have a pretty good selection of lids.

Yes, have to agree. Head for the largest shop you can for best selection (ie. Snow and Rock, or The Snowboard Asylum)

S&R and TSA are the places that i've been to, along with Boardwise and Magic Toast/Midland Diving. They all have helmets for people with round heads. If I put one of those helmets on, I can get my hand up the side on both sides of my head. I'm beginning to think I need some kind of custom made helmet

I did see a promising one in the snow and rock catalogue last year. You could turn this knob to make it tighter. But as far as I could tell, that only made it tighter from the back inwards, not from the sides.

I have a new Salomon helmet with an air-pump system to ensure good fit. It grips around your head, in an arc above and behind the ears - mostly at the back, but may help your side-gap issues.

Snow and Rock have it in their catalogue - might be worth a visit and trying one on.

Mostly used by skiers and snowsports/winter sports racers from what I can tell, don't see many snowboarders wearing them (probably because they're not considered cool enough ).

They do make excellent protection gear however, and if there's something you like within their range then go for it, it's ultimately what fits your head the best.

Uvex are a PPE company that now make snowsport helmets, rather than a snowsport clothing company that now make helmets. Uvex will be top quality kit so definitely worth trying on. If it fits, buy it, especially if you can get a deal.

It was interesting to see almost every Olympic competitor wearing Uvex gear.

Thanks for that answer I agree that they seem to make quality kit, my dad is a purchasing manager who deals with UVEX for construction site and industrial protection. He like myself and many others saw their helmets on many of the olympic athletes, so with me radually purchasing my own kit he has offered to see if his supplier can get the Uvex Sports line.
It could prove interesting as I run a partime business unrelated to snowsports but if the prices are right I might see if i can give them a go.
This is the X8 helmet I am looking to get for myself.

Looks a cool helmet and Uvex is probably the brand out there this year.

Next year should be great for them so good luck with the business.
