I wouldn't bother with the K2 Cinches. I have a set that I have used for about a season and a half. They are the carbon model. Firstly the carbon model is just b*ll*cks. It's mad of plastic and has some carbon look stickers on the sides. Secondly, the way the binding releases, rips the sole from the heel of your boots. Trashed my old boots within 4 weeks. I wrote to K2 but they didn't give a sh. So I told them I'd diss their bindings and they still didn't care. I mean why would they ? How many people could I tell ? Guess they didn't reckon on Gone Boarding. I had to buy new boots and made sure I bought some with the heel of the sole stiched on. They have still damaged my new boots but the heel's not ripped off yet.The bindings looked pretty ragged with only a few weeks use too, as the friction between boot and binding when releasing, did almost as much damage to the highback, as my boots. I'll trash the Cinches and buy new (different make) ones this season. I'd never buy K2 again. The only good thing about the Cinch is that they are pretty easy to put on when you're on a chairlift. Maybe I'll try Flow's this season. Anyone know if they have a similar effect on boot heels ?

for some reason i never really liked the cinch?? i think it was due to seeing broken cables and such put me off?? but i was thiniking that over the last few seasons the littel things that go wrong should have been corrected and that the cinches would probably be worth another look?
and seeing that a number of the guys on here were rockin the Autos last season i wondered how they shaped up??

The cinch CTX was meant to be the upgrade about a year and a half ago. The word on the piste was that Cinch was too heavy so they came out with the CTX "carbon design" which was, in fact, pretty much the same as before but with carbon look stickers on the side and a fancier ankle strap. Doubt they weighed any less than before as everything else seemed the same (except the price !) One small complaint from previous users was that the sprung metal retaining clip for the tensioning cable was easily bent. Not a big problem as you could bend it back, but this fault was not corrected on the CTX. As far as I can see no real advance has been made on the original design. I have never heard of the cables breaking though, they are pretty heavy gauge - thicker than the ones that hold my hang glider wings on

If your heart is set on fast bindings, I'd recommend APO expressos...
APO Expresso
They're better built than Cinches (thicker cable, metal clasp) and some how still way lighter. (3-400g/ pair)
I'm feeling nice today, so I'll show you this link too:
Bargain!!
There hasn't been any major changes to the design since they came out apart from a slight update to the straps- they got it right 1st time.
Do a search and you'll see nowt but praise. |

For another quick entry option try Ride Contrabands, similar concept to the Autos where one ratchet tightens both the ankle and toe straps. Some of my friends swear by these.
Of all though i'd say i preferred the Auto's. The cinch system just isn't quite refined enough for my liking, it makes too many compromises to save you what is in reality just a few seconds. |
