Hey Philip,
thanks for letting me know, that's awesome. Were you able to play 1080 also?
Thanks for the info, Gavin |

Also just got a GoPro (although it's not the Hero 2, just the plain old 'hero'!). I tried filming on Pal and Ntsc and then played it back through my HD TV - no difference, both played back fine. I guess, as someone suggested earlier, that unless you want to burn it to disc and play through a DVD player it really doesn't matter. Do people still do that btw? Surely there is no need now with Vimeo, youtube, mpora etc? |

Thanks all.
I'm probs gonna film in 1080... with the hero2 the 1080 mode gives you 3 different viewing angles, wide, medium and narrow - but only available in 30fps.
720 on the other hand is 30 or 60fps - but always wide angle.
I'm supposing that I'll change the angle of the lens more than I'll change the framerate.
I don't go big enough for super slow-mo

Surely there is no need now with Vimeo, youtube, mpora etc? The setting on the GoPro HD HERO for PAL/NTSC only affects the output signal to a TV from the AV port on the camera itself. The data will be unaffected by this setting, so it won''t make any difference at this point.
If you want to make an NTSC/PAL DVD then you need to set that up in your DVD creation program. As you said though, people mostly watch stuff digitally from SD cards or the tinterweb now though |

QUOTE (Flinnster - 20/01/2012 @ 16:58) The setting on the GoPro HD HERO for PAL/NTSC only affects the output signal to a TV from the AV port on the camera itself. The data will be unaffected by this setting, so it won''t make any difference at this point. That's not quite correct. As below, it makes bog-all difference for play back as whatever you're going to play it on will cope with either format.
However for the original GoPro at least, the PAL/NTSC setting does affect the framerate - which is 25 or 30 fps respectively. I know from experience, but here's what the manual says: "CHOOSING NTSC / PAL SETTING This controls both the video recording frame rate and playback of video from the camera when viewing on a TV." Note the recording frame rate bit.
So pick one and stick with it. You may as well use NTSC as more frames are better. |

Oh that's fairly nasty then - you'd have thought they'd make a much bigger deal that it affects the source data in this case |
