#1 Gluten free, dairy free and everything free oh and of course, vegertarian! Posted 05/09/2010 @ 12:39 |

Hello all
After many years of snowboarding holidays with my mates i am now planning my first one with my girlfriend. But as the thread suggests she has certain dietary requirements.......
I have been to resorts in France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Canada and America. I have stayed in lots of catered chalets but you generally get what you are given so i don't think thats an option. Most resorts seem to have small supermarkets which cost an absolute bomb and have very few things that she can eat. Plus we're on holiday, we want to be cooked for. In Canada and America i have stayed in resorts with big supermarkets which do cater but i don't want to travel that far as the day after i get back i'll be fitting in the annual trip with my mates!
Any suggestions / recommendations?
Thanks Craig |

Not sure, I would have thought taking a few bits and pieces like rice flour and such and then cooking for yourselves would make most sense, but you say you want to be cooked for. No harm emailing a local resteraunt or two and asking I'd recon? When you know where you want to be |

Errrrr, no!
Been having a good look, seems that lots of chalets cater for such 'special' needs. |

My dad cant have wheat, gluten and dairy products. Its never really held him back from going anywhere, the French, Canadian and US cater for allergies in food really well. Their supermarkets are rammed full of "free from" food.
We have always given, the places we are going to, prior notice that we need gluten & dairy free foods and they always help out.
Whatever happens im pretty sure she'll have to take a load of her own food, we always have to. The cardboard bread and sand biscuits! Nasty food! |

pretty much any independant chalet should be able to cater for those dietary requirements. You may find the bigger tour operators won't be as flexible but with a smaller chalet company as long as they know in advance you'll be fine. |

What Jonny said. Don't change your missus, change who you stay with. Any independent chalet company worth it's salt will happily cater for all dietary requirements. |

As many of thé posts havé said a small indépendent chalet op will cater for all. Last year thé chalet staff catered for wheat free, veggie, vegan, and religious diets, Some people do take to chalets their own wheat free flour that staff can use to whip up cake and bread, when booking your trip speak to thé company you are looking to travel with and ask them for a sample menu, any chalet op worth travelling with Will be happy to do this for you and your girlfriend. |

Just make sure you tell them before you travel, nothing worse than having guests turn up on a Sunday transfer day once the shops have closed and telling you that they have various dietary requirements! Most companies will cater for dietary requirements, and tended to happen in the chalets I've worked in (2 different companies), we sat down with the guest at the start of the week and asked what sort of things they would eat. Made life much simpler when there was a "vegetarian" that ate chicken, and also better for the guests as they were more likely to get something that they'd actually eat! |

Yep I agree, let a chalet/tour operator know and they'll do their best for you. I usually take my own rice milk, as I don't like soya on cereals... and I've never had a problem with my nut allergy and letting them know about dairy free.... I've travelled with Inghams, and gone to a couple of mountainsun chalets... and they've all been super helpful. |

There are only 2 positions in snowboarding....one is looking coooool....the other is....DEAD!
Not every problem can be solved with duct tape, and it's exactly for those situations we have WD 40 and zip ties |
