Thinking about taking a weekend trip to Glencoe soon and wondered if any1 has any reviews about the place and what thier experience was like

have a look on www.winterhighland.info
There a forum subjects on there for snow conditions for the whole season and public reports posted on conditions etc.
I've been 4 times this season (along with 2 to Nevis and 4 to Glenshee) so far and conditions have been superb.
Have a look at my photos (link on my profile page) and I have a few up from Glencoe on the 18th of February this year which should give you a decent idea of whats around the mountain.
Also, if you're travelling up and staying over you might want to have a look at the Crianlarich hotel. £40 a night (double room) b&b (2 people for £40 NOT £40 each. Single room is £25) and they drive you to the mountain in the morning and pick you up at night (about 60 miles round trip) included in that price. Can also buy your lift pass at the hotel which saves queueing when you get there and when you do you get £4 of vouchers per pass for spending on food at the cafes at Glencoe.
We only live an hour and 50 minutes away but we've stayed at the hotel twice so far this season. Not luxury, but a nice hotel with nice food and a decent bar.

Having being shafted by lack of annual leave and funds , we're thinking of taking in a "one more for the season" trip to Gelncoe. Unfortunately the only time we can get up there is the weekend of 20 March.
Does anyone know what the chances it will still be ridable then (i.e enough snow)? |

With the snow cover they have it should be OK. Keep an eye on winterhighland and the webcams to see. We might be there the same weekend if my ankle heals in time. |

snow should be fine until at least early April at Glencoe this year. The snow wasnt nearly as good last year, and I was up there mid April.
So much snow at Cairngorm if you could travel that bit further north. Much better/longer runs as well. |

Does anyone ever try catching the train to Scotland? Looks like i'd have to go to somewhere called Fort William. I can't be dealing with a 7hr car journey? At least on a train I could get up and walk about.
The prices look higher than flying to Glasgow from Birmingham.

Before anyone blazes me down, I randomly picked Glasgow. I know of Glasgow and Edinborough in scotland and that's about it. I don't know how far they are from the mountains or anything. |

Get the train to Crianlarich and stay at the Crianlarich hotel.
£40 a night B&B for a double room (£25 for a single) and they'll transport you to and from Glencoe on your riding day (included in price). Can also buy Glencoe lift passes at the hotel to save you queuing at the hill.
Train station is about 100 yards walk to teh hotel (Crianlarich a very small village).
Fort William on the train and you'd be better going to Nevis Range which is only a couple of miles outside Fort William.
We've stayed at the hotel a couple of times this season. Ideal for what it does if you ask me (and the food is quality).
Look for teh skier special listed on their website. |

Still a little undecided on the planned trip to Glencoe.
We were due to go this coming wekeend, but then cancelled due to work commitments which have just been cancelled so the trip could be back on.
Weather hasn't looked pretty with lifts closed (as per the Glencoe Mountain site). Also the forecast doesn't look promising (light rain Saturday & Sunday).
But the big question - what are the chances it will still be ridable on the weekend? |

i was up in glencoe last year and after paying £20 for a lift pass we got to the top of the lift to be told to go straight back down as they were shutting the resort due to the weather. when we got back to the bottom we were told that we couldnt get a refund there (despite only buying the pass minutes before and with cash) and that we had to email for a refund which i have done on an almost monthly basis since (over a year now) and havent had so much as a sniff of a reply. there was 5 of us so £100 out of pocket and had to drive to nevis and pay again to ride. therefore IMO GLENCOE SUCKS!
ive been snowboarding in scotland quite a few times and i would bite the bullet and drive as the different ranges are often shut due to weather so at least with a car you can drive to the next one (if its open)
BTW fort william is pretty fun night out and nevis range is right round the corner. |

Bear in mind that Glencoe has changed hands since your visit (was bought in October/November last year).
The new owner certainly seems to be much better (and much more involved) than the previous one.
In terms of weather for this weekend, it is quite bleak up here at the minute with a thaw affecting what has been unbelievable snow cover across most of the hills. Luckilly though, because the cover was so good the runs themselves seem to be surviving pretty well with full cover, but all the little fun bits and go anywhere riding will be a no go, particularly on the lower slopes.
Of the 5, Cairngorm had the deepest snow cover by some distance so it will be best placed to survive the brief warmup (supposed to get colder again on the hills from Monday/Tuesday onwards).
At the minute, Saturday looks a better day than Sunday, with partly cloudy or snow showers depending on East or West. |

I was about to pay for a room at the hotel last night (the one Gaz mentioned at the top of the thread) and then thought before finalising I'd just check out what 3 days would cost us. Including fuel, accommodation, food, lift passes, pet care, board hire for my wife, insurance etc... it came to more than £700. Whilst we could afford it, I don't think it would be value for money over the 3 days especially considering potential bad weather/poor conditions so have again cancelled the plans 
I guess it's indoor snow until the next season for us... |

i when't to bansko on the 7th-14th of march, hotel,lift passes,transfer from sofia etc etc for just over £500. the snow conditions were greatl !  |

I know Dolton, we were looking into Bansco back in Feb but didn't have enough annal leave to do it - hence thinking a long weekend in Scotland would have fitted the bill.
