hey folkes,
so, somehow out of my gang I board with I have taken responsibility of finding somewhere for us to go next jan/feb.
trouble is I don't know where to start! we want something cheap, but then also want somewhere that's going to have a good 7 - 10 days boarding.
i've no idea where to book, when for, where, which country etc. I have had a look at a few travel companies sites but they seem to be very vast and widespread.
does anyone have any advice?
thanks |

Hi,
One word when looking to book a trip for a group, MINEFIELD!
I would suggest first narrow down your search, 1 which country is préférence ? 2 how well do you all board? Mixed ability, all beginers etc? 3 Resorts, try getting some références from friends, ask your group their pref, large area small area etc 4 catered or not catered 5 are you prépared to search for a good deal and go indépendent or go for a package deal. 6 décide on your dates, jan or march if you are looking for quieter Times, less waiting Time on lifts, quièter pistes. 7 More importantly décide with your group your budget, if you are going for a package and then budget for doing independently i.e budget for accommodation, budget for flights, transfèrs .
Once you havé got your starking idéas thé internet is a good place, for indépendents try www.chaletsdirect.co.uk for big tour ops try crystal inghams etc. Another way is to choose your resort and Google "chalet holidays in ........"
Hope this helps |

Hi isherwood, I agree with Aktiv. Organising a group is tricky. (Have we met Aktiv ? I live in La Tania) Try finding a couple or three options you like, and present them to your gang and ask them to pick one. This is an easier way than asking everyone in the group what they want then trying to satisfy everyones needs. Good Luck !

Don't envy you!!!
Trying to organise a big group is a nightmare. I agree with the others - figure out what are the most important things for your holiday (eg extent of pistes, park, nightlife, short transfer time, whether you are bothered which country etc etc) and narrow it down to 3 or 4 options, then get everyone to decide.
Might be worth narrowing down to a handful of resorts that you like the look of, and then ask folk on here for some views on them. You can check out the link below for some info on most decent resorts in Europe |

Yep, I'm in Meribel every other day or so working. I remember Christina 'cos I had to go and repair it after Russians trashed the place one new year. They threatened to beat up the hosts and burn down the chalet if they didn't get fresh sheets and towels every day. So the hosts walked out and left them to it and they trashed the place. Russians ...... !

Booking for a group is easy
find somewhere...check availibility flights transfers cost etc
then say to your mates..."we are going here"
and they say OK
organising a trip for 15 mates is a hundred times easier than a week away with the missus |

We managed to organise a group to Tignes of 13 with no real issus, found a hotel, puet a deposit down, got flights booked, BANG!
I went to Kaprun last year which was good, but a bit of a mission getting the bus every morning to the gondelers, and also confusiong getting the lift to certain bits, plus ran out of runs after about 4 days. Good Snow conditions but a little boring.
However...MAYRHOFEN...awesome resort! We thought we had done everything after about 4 days, then we found the Valley over the back and didn't have enough time to do it all.
So if you can, I would reccomend going to Mayrhofen...as would a lot of people on here.
Tips for a group (as I had to do it this year and last), after finding your resort obviously
1 - Find a hotel (probably best to get a guest house with a group) 2 - Ring them about looking at a group discount 3 - Get deposit form your mates 4 - Pay Hotel Deposit 5 - Get flight money from mates 6 - Pay all flights at once
Done! |

aha, that was the year before we took it on, but I heard it was south africans and they put fish down the back of the heaters, and yes the hosts did walk out and went to stay in a hotel, after new year the hosts left and went to Morzine. |

The problem with groups is that everyones got their ideas and agendas - its pretty difficult to find a one size fits all holiday.
In the end I just found a good deal and put my foot down and now everyones happy they are signed up so early! I don't normally organise it which means we go last minute every time and while for the rest of my group this week will be the only week away it was still hassle.
Alot of it came down to price; plus we're spread across complete beginners to intermediates and a couple of us enjoy a day in the park. Pricing up this early (going mid-season) meant that it was difficult to find good deals and we weren't enough to haggle a group discount which is typically 10+.
In the end I found a deal through Neilson to Soldeu and it looks to tick all the boxes for the entire group, whilst being relatively cheap at £475 including passes (b&b). Something comparable in France was coming in at over £600, and Austria wasn't far behind but we went there last year. I think the only negatives in Soldeu is lack of women and possibly too much sunshine (guaranteed to get burnt!) and it will be down to luck for powder days. |
