I agree, the speed does scare me! Went on the dry slope after a good sun baking, and the slope was very grippy, and managed to turn onto my other edge, although my finish needs to be better, towards the end of the turn, i seem to have too much weight on my trailing foot, and it pushes the back of the board into a side slip.

But im getting there, slowly but surely. Hitting the slope again tonight for a bit more practice, and i have a lesson booked forfriday

Glad you're getting it. The feeling once it all clicks is immense so don't give up!

Just remember, don't look down. That way lies crashes (I speak from experience!)

If I was going to give any advice, which clearly I'm doing now, it would be to trust your board (Luke ). It's that shape for a reason.

I found that when I got to the fall line the speed would frighten me and I'd throw myself down as a stopping mechanism. I soon learned though that by leaning into the (new) edge, the board would grip and complete the turn. So if you're coming off your toe edge, once you hit the fall line, dig in your heel edge and the board will do the rest, you just need to believe that it will happen.

Trying to turn too soon will throw you off too. The danger is to try to apply the brakes before you've hit the fall line and the board bites too early. I also found that de-tuning the edges of my board near the ends helped. The sharp edges of my (then) new board meant it was catching too sharply too soon, having the effect of turning early and so throwing me off.

Good luck with it.
