I apologise if this topic has been tackled in the past but new to snowboarding and this forum. I've taken some lessons on the dry slope and due to be going to France this weekend. Is it a big difference between the two and will my lessons count for anything? I will be taking lessons also in france. Cheers |

Yeah, theres a pretty big difference between the two. Dry slope is obviously a lot stickier than snow and generally hurts more when you fall over (unless you're on particularly hard packed).
That said, if you were picking it up on the dry slope the odds are you'll find it easier on snow. Just be careful not to take any bad habits you might have from the dry with you (most commonly kicking the back of the board round to complete a turn).
I learned on dry with about 14 hours worth of lessons before I went anywhere near snow and I was glad I did as I had an instructor who was big on technique and made sure there were as few bad habits as possible. When I went to snow I was delighted at how much easier things seemed to become.
Don't worry about it. Get your lessons on teh snow and go from there. |

You'll be fine, you'll just notice that the snow is much faster, but turning, stopping, and every other factor of snowboarding is much easier on real snow.
Bottom line is that you'll never want to go back to dry slope again after being on the proper stuff |

I had lessons on a dry slope, but it is much easier and fun to board on real snow, Plus the dry slope is quite consistent, nothing really changes. On the slopes you can come across all sorts of things...
Snow is the best! good luck! |

I learnt to board on snow, but have now moved back to England and i'm boarding each week on a dryslope in my area.
Many many many people have told me if I can board on dry, i'll be fine on snow. Aparently dryslope really finds the errors in your technique and can improve your boarding skill as it is harder than on the snow.
I am yet to go back on the snow after mastering the dry stuff, but i'm looking forward to it and hopefully this practice on drystuff will have helped. |
