A beginner looking to spend £350 on a board? More money than sense perhaps ? Get him on something cheap; Rome Crail, Nitro Volume, Capita Stairmaster, Forum Recon - £250 maximum. |

When I say beginner he's already done 3 weeks (and he has more money than sense!) |

3 weeks is still beginner - check out the boards I've mentioned and wait for others to suggest other rides too. £350 is crazy for a first board. |

Hey man, I have a HKD 158.... It'll bite you in the ass if you're still new to boarding.. It's extremely fast....
I don't think there is anything wrong with spending £350 on your first board if you are serious enough about it... perhaps get a bit more time under his belt first before jumping in and buying.
I think the forum recon is a good suggestion.
Anyhoo I ride the HKD 158 with Burton Cartels and it's sweeeeeeeet.

The HKD is a pretty stiff board to be honest with you mate. He doesn't really need it. If he's only done 3 weeks, he'd benefit from a more progressive board. The HKD is seriously quick and fairly responsive and it'll throw him off if he makes a wrong move. Not to say that he wouldn't be able to learn on it...he'd just have more fun on something a bit more forgiving. If he really really wants to spend loads of money, then I'd point him in the direction of a board with a mid flex like a Custom or a Nitro Team. But I really rekon he should get something more progressive. Forum Recon, Ride Control, Burton Deuce, Nitro Volume. All great, fun boards to ride. And at the end of the day that's the most important thing...that he has fun whilst riding. |

I was a bit of a tw*t when I got my frst board and although I had a lot of fun on it and could ride it it wasn't the most suitable board for me. Still it looked nice |

hehe, like a misguided fool I went out and spanked most of my student loan on my first full burton set up! Custom etc. I had enough left for a decent snowboard holiday which was amazing, thereafter it was white lightning and spagetti hoops!
Nowadays you don't have to spank a wedge on a decent board, but if you want to spend 350 sterling on your first board do it. there are boards out there that are top shelf that relative beginners could easily grow into.
having ridden the HKD, its a challenging board to ride for sure, there are easier boards to get on with, but then you may be the muts nuts after 3 weeks.
looking back now, i'd be putting my money into the best fitting boots first, then around 300-330 on my first shtick if i was keen.
wish i still had that first board!
