Revision #1 (Last edited: 13/11/2009 @ 04:38) |
So, after reading numerous reviews, and even watching a youtube vid or two about this pack, I plumped for it and ordered one from the States - I looked all over here in Sydney but couldn't find one in stock.
Immediate first impressions: +++ Good size, Good style, Functional fit with pockets a plenty and water-proofing well thought out
- - - Where are all the lens divider inserts?! There's all this space, and my lenses are falling about the place cos I can only split the two side bays once! I'll have to now either make some myself, or source some elsewhere, but I bet they won't be matching red... a very poor oversight in my opinion for a pretty expensive pack. The only person that this would be suitable for would be carrying a body, 1x 70-200 f2.8 (fixed to cam), and 4x 24-70's f2.8s.
The other thing I couldn't work out from the reviews/pics/vids was how much actual space you had left for stuff after photog equipment... answer; not too much. Probs about 7litres (using my 15litre daypack as reference).
I might just stick all this in a review... |

Sounds like they may have missed some of the insert material there - there seems to be far too much of it to me! |

Hmm... have been short-changed? I only have 2 of those inserts... just checked the Dakine Website and there appears to be 4 in their shot? |

Hang on a minute, I'll count what I have...
Ok, the bag has the complete inner bag thing, which is black. You have that I presume. It has velcro bits on it to stick the red stuff into.
Red stuff: - two long hinged pieces - two short pieces That's four in all. I may have some more somewhere but this is what I have to hand and it's probably all.
I usually carry lenses in the suppliers (Canon's) bags as they are just cloth and that way I can easily slip them in a pocket or whatever if I fancy. The flash stuff comes in cases also. Hence the only things "naked" in my bag are big lenses (eg 300mm) plus the bodies. So I don't use the foam that much.
Lowe pro give you a lot more foam (which you can use here too of course), but I never pack my bags like they do in Lowe Pro adverts (no lens bags, no lens caps!).
If they short changed you then you should be able to get an additional *full set* in which case you'd have more than you need. Da Kine is a sound company, obviously it depends who you bought it from though. Looks like someone "robbed Peter to pay Paul" on you there. |

Thanks for that Phil, really appreciate the time spent. I got the same red pieces... but, now I've had a look and a play, I've decided to try things for a while with a new system. Speedlights in original pouches fit nicely top to bottom down one side leaving enough shallow depth for some Pocket wizards and other junk on top... I pulled the longer red strips up to hug the camera body tighter, so now I can get all my other lenses down the opposite side nicely, again with pouches to keep them 'stuck' together.
Will see how I travel for the time being, if not, a dude in a photo shop gave me the local supplier for Lowe Pro and said I'd do well to see if they could supply some spare dividers. |
