Hi one and all,

Thinking about heading up to Scotland for a few days boarding but have never been before and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on getting there, good places to stay and accessibility, ie, if we fly, where to, or train it, advisable to hire a car etc?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Gareth

This should help - Scotland this weekend?
I've been all over the world, Ibiza, Magaluf, Blackpool etc and Tamworth was by far the best for snowsports!! It's intense man!!! You're totally gripped when you're at the top and looking down...

Cheers dude, great help. Has anyone been recently?

In the last 4 weeks I've been to Nevis, Glenshee twice and Glencoe twice.

We have some of the best snow cover across all hills that we've had in my lifetime and, even more out of teh ordinary, the weather seems to be playing ball as well. Of those 5 days, 3 were bluebird, 1 the cloud was just below the summits and one started bluebird and finished overcast. There was very little wind if any on all 5 days, which is very rare up here.

If you're gonna make the trip, now is the time to do it.

Have a look at my pics (should be a link on my profile if you click my name). I have some up from Glenshee and Glencoe on the 18th and 20th.

EDIT - Should probably mention that since those days we've had between 60 - 120cm of new snow at all the hills, giving even better cover.

You should have a look at the public reports and pictures on www.winterhighland.info for daily info.

Wicked, great help guys, hopefully get myself up there in a few days.

If I fly up from London to Aberdeen, is it pretty straight forward form there?

Depends where you want to go really - From Aberdeen the Lecht is closest, with CairnGorm and Glenshee a bit further and Glencoe or Nevis a considerable hike. Alternatively Glasgow gives you a shorter drive to Glencoe/Nevis or Edinburgh for Glenshee, if you want to be fly and/or be based in a city. Or the train goes to Aviemore which is right next to Cairngorm.
With the conditions just now you can have a great time anywhere.

I went today, I was at the Lecht, snow to die for... the conditions really are fantastic.

I think all the resorts have webcams. Have a look and see how good it is.

For instance, the Lecht has a fancy 360 degrees one. www.lecht.co.uk

The only issue is that the vast majority of uplift is on drag lifts or Pomas, not much fun on a board.

the conditions right now really are as good as people are saying.

I have been at Glenshee most weekends since christmas, and took a trip to Glencoe this past weekend for a change of scenery. Glenshee and Cairngorm are the best two resorts I would say, with Glenshee having the biggest area, and fewest queues, and Cairngorm having deepest snow and longest runs.

Best websites to check out are ski scotland and winter highland.

Hope that helps.
