Sorry about the waxing question again and if you dont want to give me any info then thats fine as it's been done loads i am sure. I have a new board and have been using it since jan for about 4hrs in total, ie lessons and on my own.
The board was waxed etc when bought and i am just wondering at what point should i consider getting the board re waxed and edges done etc. I will be getting it done at local shop.
Thanks again for adivce.

Edges whenever you like they dont blunt too easily...couple of quick runs with a file is fine

Waxing...as often as you can is my advice. When I get a new board I give it 4 good waxes to get a decent base...then after every 3 days (max) riding. Look into doin it yourself and not be payin a shop to do it..it is really that easy to be honest..

Depends on where you ride.

If you're purely doing a few hours here and there you'll probably only need to wax once or twice a year (if that) as you wont be getting enough speed in the domes to notice a difference anyway.

On mountain, I try to wax mine once every 4 or 5 full days riding because I find I generally start to feel a difference about that time. But thats just rule of thumb.

Edges: I've had my current board nearly 4 years and in that time it's been shop serviced (including edges) once. That covers at least 40+ days total off the top of my head). They take a long time to blunt and unless you're riding a season or something where you're using every day I doubt you'd ever need to do it, particularly if you are only using in a dome.

I ride indoors every week out of season. Usually wax (and not wax) every 2 or 3 visits to the Xscape (2-3 hours at a time). Indoor snow seems to be very abrasive and strips the wax right off of the board. The way i look at it is that it's probably best to protect the base as much as possible. That said though, you go through a shed load of wax so don't be buying that expensive swix £50 a puck racing wax, check out Datawax, they do 300g packs of all temp fluoro for about £6.

I've never sharpened my edges. One thing i did notice when we hit the Cairngorms this year was, once you've ridden a couple of Icy Morning runs, the mountain sharpens those edges up for you. My edges were like razor blades by the end of the first day!

ive never seen the point in waxing to ride indoors, i mean how fast do you need to go on an 8 meter slope?

all the more reason to have it waxed, if its sluggish you cant build enough speed to hit features

Hey buddy! It totally depends on where you're riding, and also if you're using the correct temp' wax for the conditions. I personally don't have a time limit I abide to for waxing my board. I just keep an eye on my base and when it looks like it's getting dry (whiteish dry patches) or feels sluggish, I base clean & hot wax it. Then it is as good as new.

When I used to ride in the domes I used Zardoz (not wax), the teflon wax you just wipe on. I found that to be good enough for inside those places.

Regarding your edges, if you flick your nail across the and some of your nail flakes off then you know your edges are sharp, if your edges don't flake your nail then you'll know they need to be sharpened. You can buy specific edge sharpening tools if you don't feel confident enough just using a regular file.

Have fun giving your board some TLC.
