Beginner board etc
Posted 30/08/2010 @ 11:12
Ok been doing well i think anyway but been renting everything so far.
I know i have to try on loads of boots see what best fits.
I take it bindings go with boot size?
I am 5ft 11 about 13st and size 9.
i have been using a 160 board.
anyone have some ideas on a good board and bindings.
daft questions but just not sure :S

Loads out there mate and plenty of other posts in the begginners section to look at what people reccommend. My advice is:
1. Board depends on ability & what you want to ride. Bit of everything (pow, piste, park) go all mountain, just pow - look at a freeride board (stiffer and bigger
), just park - look at the freestyle stuff (smaller and bendy :wink2
.
2. Bindings do go with boots. Generally size 9 up is a large binding but sizes can vary depending on manufacturers. I'm an 8 and have used large bindings before but I have a much better fit in medium bindings. Some bindings companies do M/L sizes, so are a bit more of an inbetween - Union do this for example.
3. Make sure your boots are as comfortable as possible - you can ride a sh*t board, but riding sh*t boots will wreck your feet after 10mins!

Yeah i want to be able to do mountain etc maybe a small bit of park but think im a bit away from that to be honest., as not even hit my 1st mountain yet.
So bindings just come in S/M/L thats good to know makes it a bit easier. lol

Pretty striaghtforward then - all mountain progressive board. Try looking at Atomic Hatchet (£250) or something like the Ride Agenda (£225). Don't spend more than £300, as loads of boards out there for less in that ability bracket.

It's all about your height and weight for board length; then the type of riding and level that you are at. A 160 is actually about right but a slightly smaller board might feel more controllable and easier to turn. I wouldn't downsize too much though, maybe a 157 or 158 at the most if at all.
