sounds good then, not sure how much a cannon can produce though to be honest, watched one of those "how its made" programmes the other day and omg the canadian's have serious weapons lol, massive poles all over the slopes and 4 sirens on the top just basically making a snow storm. impressive really |

pleny is a bit green (with the odd white patch). Avoriaz is up and running and is suprisingly good!... the pistes are quite hard-packed which means uber-fast as it's so cold at the moment. Lindarets, Mossettes, Fornet, Arare, Super Morzine are all open, off-piste is a big no-no unless you really want to learn how to rip the ar5e out of a board!!
Morzine / Les Gets side is set to open this weekend. They've got the cannons churning away so I'd expect Nyon, Chavannes and top section of Pleney to open then... but if it snows, it's cold enough for them to get the lot open really quickly...
Current local prediction is snow in 6 days time... |

Here's hoping the snow gods drop a big dump on it soon!
I'm not off to Avoriaz till the 3rd March but I'd still like to see it improve before then for all those who are going there soon. |

What are they basing it on Jonny? Only thing I can see on the horizon is a smattering on the 31st and then for a few days continuously. |

good question... to me they don't appear to base it on anything... I've asked them what weather service they use and it always seems to be 'someone else has said it'.... the strangest thing is that 95% of the time they're spot on ! I'm guessing years of living in the mountains, studying the consistancy of goat poop, thickness of onion skins, size of pine cones etc has a lot to do with it... (plus the satellite weather station in their back garden probably helps ) |

The long range GFS modelling charts dont show anything for at least another 7 days . Admittedly though there utterly unreliable at that range and it could snow before or not at all? A doctor friend of ours said that his secretary went skiing in the arrar area and the conditions were quite good. |

hi Rob, conditions up in Avoriaz are actually really good considering there hasn't been much snow come down. Most of Avoriaz is open and it's been staying cold so the cannons are going 24/7 still.
The morzine side is due to open on Saturday. They've been saving what is up there for Christmas week so it should be possible to going up both sides by the time you get here.
See you saturday. |

Just come back from avoriaz last night!! its all good, lots of the lifts are open, the mains park is open, the off piste is pretty good but a little rocky, my ride now needs a good fill and wax!! The off piste is good over at col de fornet, there are 2 quick lifts serving some real good off-piste back underneath them, grab a sandwich in the little wooden hut 3/4 of the way down called the 'creperie du chavanette' cheap, sunny and a top view up the mountain. If you are driving its best to park up down at Les Prodains (700spaces!) and get the cable gable car or 2 lifts up to AV1800, the gable car is open from 0700 -2100, so no worries, we had a few beers then came down a little later to avoide waiting for the cable car, you can't ride back down to Les Prodains as yet, but I dont think it will be long till you can. I ended up here by default, but will be going back for sure, a top place for boarding!! |
