Hullo all,
Looks like our next snow adventure is going to be a choice between one of these 3. Be good to get opinions on which is best for the following...
1. Ski-in-ski-out accomodation (up to, say 150-200m from slopes)
2. Nightlife (booze n food)
3. Price (looking to pay around £350-£400 each in late Jan for a group of 6 of us)
Any other highs/lows of each that people can point out would be mega.

has to be les gets then.
avoriaz is an isolated town after 9.30pm when the prodain lift closes. and like any isolated town they WILL empty your wallet.
morzine is popular and fun and busy and they will take advantage of emptying your wallet every chance they get
Les Gets is lower and less busy, and they will empty your wallet, just to a slightly smaller degree.
why is ride to the door importaant. it only matters once a day. take a look at chalet jojo in st jean d'alpes http://www.winterandsummer.com/ you will be only a few mins from the nearest lift. and will save a fortune |

Are these places any more expensive than Les Arcs or Chamonix for apres ski? Ride to door is important 'cos Chamonix was a pain in the hole spending so much time every day loading the car, parking, unloading etc. I guess the 150-200m thing is strict, but I don't want to be spending large amounts of energy getting to and from the actual point of the holiday (the slopes!)

in order of getting fleeced for everything
les gets is bloody expensive
morzine is outrageous
avoriaz needs you to leave a first born child behind before you order a beer.

i was in avoriaz last Feb, we where in a self catering chalet so drank wine in the apartment mostly, but i do clearly remember the bar closest to us asking 6.50 Euro for a pint of lager, (and of course as it was europe not having a clue what beer was!)
wine is always the cheapest drink. its prob cheaper to drink wine than water in many resorts.
the chalet i stayer in just outside of les gets the year before had a euro a drink honesty bar. |

Average really.
Got to remember that the more isolated a resort is the more expensive simple goods become. And let's be fair, you don't get much simpler than barley, water, hops and sugar! 
If you want cheaper beer, buy it at the supermarkets in bulk (although places like Avoriaz, Les Arc 1800, Val Thoren etc wil still be more expensive than some due to the logistics of getting supplies up to the resort) or save a few bucks for the bars. Altenatively go from zero to hero at happy hour!!  |

Personally I would stay in Morzine, I loved the friendly, lively atmosphere of the place  |

and if the snow isn't good, go up to Avoriaz, its only a couple of chairs away, or a bus ride and a bubble, and if that ruins your holiday... well, there's no hope for you! |

Agreed. And the Gluhwein is defo cheaper and imo tastes better than some of the lagers AND you get wrecked quicker. |

*important question* what type of snowboarding do you like and what level is your group?
Most snowboarders prefer the slopes of avoriaz, lindarets, pre la joux and the mossette area... If you're the same, chosing Les Gets puts you too far away, in my opinion.
Even though I 100% prefer heading up to avoriaz every day, I've always stayed in morzine. It's easier than the likes of Chamonix for getting to and from the slopes (where did you stay in Cham?) - and the benefit of being in morzine town: accommodation choice, bars, restaurants etc, out-weighs the slope-side benefits of being in avoriaz, to me. |

I tend to ride on the Swiss side of the PDS but have stayed in Les Gets and visited Morzine on a day trip from Chamonix.
For me the best riding on the French side is in the Lindarets area as previously mentioned. This is in the Avoriaz domain of the area. Mont Chery in Les Gets is also a personal favourite as it is quiet and can be awesome on a powder day.
Les Gets is probably the quietest of all 3 in terms of nightlife and would be the first to suffer in bad conditions due to it's elevation. It is also the furthest removed from the main ski area.
Morzine has a big British apres scene and would probably be the liveliest of all 3 areas. It also has good access to the main PDS area with the Prodains and Super Morzine lifts.
Personally I would choose Morzine if limited to those 3 or get your backside over to the Swiss side where the pistes are much quieter.  |
