Right, quick guide to help you all try and avoid double posting.

Firstly the obvious one, don't click 'Submit Post' more than once.

I'm assuming the main problem comes when you get a timeout while trying to post something, it's happened to us all. What you need to do is keep an eye on the address bar, if the address doesn't change before going to the error page you probably won't have posted. If, however, it changes to something like ...Forum/ShowThread.aspx?ThreadID=13260#535635 and then goes to the error page you will have posted, so no need to go back and do it again.

This is just a rough guide to avoiding it, of course there'll be exceptions but it generally works fairly well for me.

"Ctrl + C" is the way forward!

Copy your text before you post, then if you get the error page, go back to the thread & see if your post has been submitted before posting it again.

It doesn't take that much extra effort & will help reduce double posts

that's not when I get double posts, I never resubmit without checking first - sometimes you just press submit (once) the thread loads immediately and voila, two or more posts.

It does take extra effort if your getting timeouts, as I very rarely seem to get one on it's own, so reloading the original thread to see if you've posted can take an age as well. And as some people apparently can't be bothered to check like you've suggested, I'm just trying to point out a very simple way of checking.

Although the url has changed with regard to posts this may be of use in the current climate of timeouts.

I blame the credit crunch. Every other person is blaming things on that so why not this

However in this case I clicked submit once. I then opened another window for GB and saw that is had posted 4 million times.
