I've only recently discovered snowboarding and as I'm probably above the average snowboarder's age I don't know a lot of other boarders local to me.

Is there anyone in the Gloucester ot Cheltenham area that would want to link up for trips up to Tamworth and maybe arranging a week away next February/March.

Morning dude,

Welcome to the sport - better late than never

I have a Facebook group for people that visist Tamworth regularly who may go alone and fancy some company:

The Lonely Snowboarder

4 or 5 of us had a bit of a meet last night which was pretty cool.

I do believe there are a few people down Glou/Chelt way that post on the boards so hopefully they'll dive in the thread too.

Hi there

We have a mini-crew based in Chelt/Glos and I think we're all, ahem, "above average age" too

We try to get out to MK for the Park Strife nights (1st Sat in the month) but as they have the airbag for the next couple of months, well not sure we'll bother- it takes up half the slope and if you're not actually using it it just generally p*sses you off for taking up half the space

So, might venture to Tam instead for a change ... anyone know if they actually have more than 1cm of snow on Tam at the moment? It's been so long since I've been. Last time it was like a sloped ice rink and it put me right off. I'm trying to learn some freestyle moves and it really didn't make me wanna chuck myself on the floor learning!!

I've always found it alright iggie. Its definately not the best, but I've not really considered it an issue. I've been told its been very icey at times, but I've not encountered it personally aside from the usual spot on the corner.

Thanks for that info pertinky ... might see if I can persuade the crew to give it a go for one of the Sat sessions. It put a few of the guys right off, not just me ... it hurts bad enough if when you stack trying something new at MK and they usually have lots of snow to land face first in

I'd love to try Hemel as I only hear good things about that place (snow & freestyle setup wise) but they only seem to do a Fri session and trying to get there from here on a Fri would be a hell of a mission! Maybe I'll just have to leave the crew behind & do one of their girly sessions, they seem to have those on a Sat occasionally

Being above average age I wasn't sure if I was allowed to use terms like 'mini-crew'.

I've got some discount vouchers for Tamworth that need using by end of September which I'd be happy to share.

Oh yeah we get plenty of funny looks from younger relatives for using words that "old people" don't use ... dude

Don't think we'll be able to make any dates in Sept ... already got booked out weekends, birthdays, visitors, etc, for some reason Sept is just turning out to be super busy I'd imagine someone will be around to help you get rid of your discount vouchers though

We were planning on doing the Oct Park Strife at MK but like I said with the air bag being there it puts us off bothering as it takes so much slope out of use and not everyone we ride with wants to be hitting up the freestyle toys all night. So might fancy trying Tam at the start of Oct, not sure which night though as Tam is a bit smaller so the freestyle Sat night session probably wouldn't be to everyones liking - plus as you're a beginner (& I hope I'm not dissing here) I'm gonna guess you're not quite feeling up to freestyling yet. I'll ask around.

Word!

Yeah, freestyling is beyond my level at the moment, though I think I'm past the stage where just staying vertical is an achievement.

I can be flexible with my work so if any of your crew can make morning sessions I'm good for that. There are morning boarding sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am.

Wish I could be "flexible with my work" ... my boss likes me to be in the office between 9 and 5 Mon to Fri Although I can arrange to work from home it still has to involve working and being at my PC rather than playing on snow Think the rest of the crew are in a similar situation. I'll see what folks say & get back to you

Welcome to GB dqve

Well, in our crew there's 7 regulars locally in Chelt/Glos, a couple of occasionals and 1 interloper that's currently in Brum ... but moving to Chelt when his house sale gets sorted (fingers crossed, lucky rabbits foot at hand, etc, etc). All bar one of us is in our 30s and the last none 30 joins the rest of us next year

When we went on holiday this season I think we racked up 19 of us "above average agers" (not everyone is a Chelt/Glos local though) that know each other & board together in the one resort

I'd bet there's more than one crew around here given that Matson is just over the Golden Valley in Glos We're just an above average age snow crew not a Dendix crew ... I'm guessing those crews are gonna be a little younger & bounce a bit better than we do

We ended up in Sauze this year ... one of the guys and his girlfriend booked up and then it kinda snowballed (no pun intended) and pretty much everyone we know that snowboards booked into the same resort We were all in different hotels and stuff but it was great fun as we met up at the lift station first thing and then again after dinner to go drinking at night. Sauze was pretty good fun & we had good snow, so all round result
