Hey guys,

I'm currently teaching on a small hill in Northern BC on a BUNAC working holiday VISA and I'm starting to think about what to do next season. I'll have to ask but I'm pretty sure the place I'm working now wouldn't go through the trouble to sponsor me a VISA.

I know their pretty hard to come by but would be interested to hear about anyone else who did manage to get one.

Andy

All those damn Aussies get it so easy over here, haha

After JibMonkey got his CASI 2, he got a sponsored visa to work at Silver Star the following season.

Yeah but the problem is, as far as im aware, that places will sponsor you to come back and if the OPs employer wont go to the trouble, then it's a bit back to square one? Maybe wrong tho.

It can be done, but right now chances are slim......

The employer will need a Positive Labour Market Opinion (LMO) before he can offer a job to a foreign worker: See here for more infor on LMO

Right now, there are plenty of unemployed Canadians so LMO's are being rejected all over the place.... A lot of hills are able to fill any labour shortfalls with foreign workers on working holiday permits, so they will not go to the expense of applying for an LMO.

If you are highly qualified (i.e. level 2+) some of the more remote hills (i.e. not Whistler or Banff) may go through the process. So it is worth asking around.

Once a positive LMO has been issued it is then upto the employee to apply for the work permit.

It can be done with a bit of work, good luck!

Not really.... they can get a working holiday visa easier than UK workers (i.e. directly and not through BUNAC) and they can get an option to extend it once I think, but from then on they are still subject to the same process as anyone else.

Thanks for the replies.

I guess I'll ask at the place I'm working now and otherwise have to take my chances when applying for jobs over the summer
