Kl sounds like you had a great time . You'll get a feel for how much you can lean on the heelside. |

Well I did my Snowboard in a day course at Tamworth yesterday. Had a great time and a good laugh. Even better I was the only one on the course. Big thanks to Stu great instructor, and put me at ease and explained what I needed to do really well.
Emma, I was the same doing the toe edge I thought it would be hard going down the slope backwards, but I picked it up really quick. It was the heel edge that gave me a mare took me ages to get that right.
Woke up this morning and can hardly move, aching so bad. But I am defo hooked now

Sounds like you had a great day then! We were probably on the slope at the same time at some point then yesterday haha! I had my 2nd learner lesson and I was also the only one in my group so I got a private lesson, it was great! Did you manage to get the heel edge ok after a while then? I managed to get it this time and now I find it better than toe edge haha. I also did turns, and got to go from the top of the slope, its not as scary as I thought it would be actually |

Good to hear your lessons are going well, I had another hour there today between 2 and 3pm, I dont think it will be too long till I go for the freestyle in a day course. I am still getting a little foot pain but now only on my leading foot so I am going to have a look at some better fitting Boots next month. Sounds like your pretty close to their recreational standard if your not already. |

Guessing you're using rental boots? I used to get no end of problems when I was learning and using them, at Cas mind but they're pretty much all the same - sh*t. Got my own pair after my third lesson and the change was amazing, if you can afford it go out and get your own set now, you'll progress a lot quicker.
I'd also head up to Cas too, Tamworth is awful IMO and stupidly expensive. |

Actually I am using all my own kit Burton Rulers, 158 Custom ICS and Exile EST bindings. I am going to adjust my leading foot angle next time I did it with my rear foot and the pain was much less. The only reason why I think it has more to do with the boots is my feet dont really hurt when I am riding more so when I stop, yet as soon as I remove the boots I get instant relief. I just cant seem to get a happy medium between tightness of the laces, comfort and stability whilst riding. |

Right, had my third lesson so Im now at recreational standard, wooo :D
So I'm thinking of just going for an hour one of the days to have a practice by myself of what Ive learnt in the lessons. Do you have to book it or can you just turn up? Also, when your just having a recreational hour I read somewhere that you get a pass thing..is that for the barriers that you go through from the changing area to the slope? |

Congratulations.
Just turn up and go, you can pre-book but for rec it's not normally needed. Some snowboarding clubs will also get you discount on your rec session too if you're a member.
I can't remember how it works at Tamworth, only been once ages ago, but at Cas you pay and go on and the lifties (very) occasionally check your lift pass to make sure that you have paid to be on the hill or at CFe you have to scan your lift pass each time you want to go back up the lift so that you can get through the barriers.
Just make sure you tell them that it's your first time there for a rec session, either at the booking or hire desk, and they should go through it all with you.
Have fun. |

QUOTE (Sym0n - 24/03/2010 @ 08:24) I'd also head up to Cas too, Tamworth is awful IMO and stupidly expensive. It's the same if not cheaper than all the other indoor slopes, especially if you're a member. |

Tam - £25 Cas - £21 CFe - £25 (1.5 hour though)
Fair enough it's only £17.50 at Tam if you're a member, but membership is £65 a year. I pay £15 a year for SCUK membership and that brings Cas down to £16.80 or CFe to £20. Plus they both have real (fake) snow instead of scrapings off the ice rink lol .
End of the day it's each to their own, but for 15 minutes extra driving Cas beats Tam hands down for me each and every time, plus it's cheaper . |

Hi
at tamworth if your not a member and you go for a recreational session you get given a recreational slope pass which you hand back at reception or the equipment desk when you leave, however if you are a member you give your card at reception and pay and then use your membership card to swipe through the turnstiles. Then as for the cost it depends when you go as they operate peak and off peak times which in the week off peak is before 6pm. Off peak prices are £18 for first hour for non members or £12.60 for members. Peak Prices are £25 for non members or £17.50 for members. Dont get caught out in shool holidays as the prices are always classed as peak and the slope is much busier I would recommend an off peak morning or afternoon session for your first one as you will probably feel more condident with fewer people on the slopes. Always check their website as everything is published on there times and prices etc. |

Cheers, I thought you must have to swipe something at the turnstiles but didnt relalise it was your member card so thanks alot for that! I'll probably go off peak on a Monday as I got told thats one of the quiet days and its been quiet when Ive had my lessons on Mondays so far, and £12.60 is a pretty good price for an hour I'd say, plus you get the 2nd hour cheaper I think? Woo cant wait now :> |
