I'm sure I read someone's post somewhere that the 3 hours free are redeemable after the day you're there. So you don't have to be boarding for 3 hours after your day lesson.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Plus I have no idea how long you have to redeem the offer. |

Yeah i only live about half an hour away :D
I did have a look at the membership thing but i was thinking well what if i dont wanna carry on doing it? (i know thats probably unlikely haha) but it would be a waster of membership...but then like you say, if I do the day course then become a member afterwards i'll be kicking myself |

Just picked up your thread hopefully I can help I too am a solo boarder at the dome some mates ride but have tasted real mountain and the dome dosent do it for them anymore. I learnt at the Snowdome myself originally about 12 years ago but stopped after about 3 years due to graduating Uni and getting a Job. However I always wanted to get back into it so I took the 3 hour lesson back in November last year to see how I would get on with things, within a hour however I was back upto the top of the slope and loving it again.
In my opinion the instruction is ace and for begginers the rental equipment is fine aswell, however if you pick it up and want more boots should be a first purchase and with the end of season sales at the mo prices are pretty good. I am sure that the learn in a day course will be fine for you especially if you ride horses I would imagine leg strength wont be an issue, but if your only half an hour away like me it really is no hardship nipping down the good old A5 if the 3 hour fast track is calling.
I did my lesson first thing on a Monday as I had a day off work and had the instructor I think he was called Stu to myself so that was a bonus and helped me get back to it pretty quick, I would imagine most early morning lessons will be fairly quiet though.
I am currently going once a week now and having a recreational hour after work on a weekday between 4-5pm ish it is pretty quiet on the slope then so easier to try out new things without loads of people seeing you eat snow, my advice avoid weekends recreationally as lessons and other users fill the slopes aplenty. I bought all my set up 2 weeks ago and got the membership sorted at the snowdome after joining the SCUK club and getting the discount.
I am now looking to do the freestyle in a day course in a month or so, I am slightly addicted so before I bore you anymore I am sure you will love it and by all means pm me if your wanting any dome specific info. |

Well the good thing is you sound pretty determined that you want to get good at this sport so thats a good start for sure. As far goes the 3 Hr lesson goes they call them fast track one and fast track two. From how my lesson went in November they made sure you got all the right kit interms of the correct board length and stance set up, as many have said on here it generally depends on your leading foot when skidding around on your laminate floor in socks or which foot steadys yourself first if you get pushed from behind. As for me I am a bit wierd.... or stupid when I rode before when I was like 17 all those years ago I learnt with a goofy stance and had all my own kit setup like that, however when asked which foot I had forward before my lesson started I instantly said LEFT foot forward totally forgetting I used to be Goofy so should of said Right foot forward, my excuse is I was excited about my lesson and got mixed up add to that I am left handed for writing so surely that cancels my stupidity out.
Anyway once thats all sorted you will go out to the slope and walk down the slope watching your instructor then after walking back up the slope you will strap in and try out first toe edge slides straight down the slope to find your balance. I found the faster you went the more stable you seem to be otherwise you tend to be a bit to toe happy and will fall forward. Then when your happy with that you will go to heel edge control in the same principle as the toe edge.
Then you will go to moving across the slope on either toe and heel edge which is basically shifting your weight on to either foot in a controled way to move across the slope. This then moves onto the so called garland turns and then on to linked turns and somewhere inbetween you will do the rope lifts and some slides to demonstrate your skills on 3/4s of the slope, just remember with the rope lifts to have a pair of gloves to grip it as it is pretty cold and therefore slippy.
Once your instructor is happy with the progress they will take you to the top of the slope and basically say go for it, then if your happy with things and they are at the end of the 2nd lesson you will be granted the recreational standard.
Thats the principal anyway I would imagine it is each persons own development that dictates what happens when. I hope your a natural just stay away from weekends, fortunately I dont work many weekends but will sometimes finish at about 3pm so I nip home get changed and normally hit the slope just after 4 which is ace. Keep in touch and let me know how you do, or if you need advice for kit Ive done so much research now I feel like an expert although my skills need improving. |

Thanks for the info about what the lessons involve! :D
So today I dragged my mom to the snowdome and we stood on the viewing thing and watched the people on the sloep for a while, then went and got some leaflets and stuff. And we saw that if 2 adults and 2 kids join membership its only £130, so we were thinking about that as then my mom, brother and sister could go too, but so far its only me and my brother who are deffinately up for it.
Oh one question if anyone knows, can adults and juniors go in the same lesson? Cause if it ends up just me and my bro, he is 14 so classed as junior but it would be cool if we could both go in the same lesson.
Also today I was on the wii playing sword fighting haha, and I was trying to get a good swing so I could beat my bro and I noticed that when I was trying to hit really hard I found myself standing with my left foot forward haha, just something I noticed lol. |

I am a member now haha! I worked it out that it would cost like £170 if I paid non member prices for my lessons, or £180 if I joined the membership and then paid member prices. So I thought I might as well join :D
I hope I'll be doing the same as you with living at the dome haha. I'm hoping that if I start learning now and carry on through summer, then I should be okay for when the snow comes in winter |

So I finally had my first lesson today! It was great
We did going down the slope on the toe edge and heel edge, I expected the heel edge to be easier and at first I thought it would be horrible to go on the toe edge and go backwards, but I got the hang of the toe edge okay, but the heel edge I was so bad at haha! I kept falling backwards on my butt, though at least I didnt fall forwards and face plant which is one crazy guy kept doing at speed!!
My legs were killing at the time too, but now they don't feel too bad. I hope they arnt too bad in the morning either! I cant wait for my next lesson though, but have a whole week to wait! :D |
