  #1  2010 Big Freeze - Battersea - London accomodation question...  Posted 21/05/2010 @ 17:27
Hi, my name is joe and im brand spanking new to this forum...

I joined mainly to ask this question to anyone who has been to the big freeze before. As it's a 3 day event, and being in october and in the middle of london there is no camping... has anyone got any reccomendations for accomodation in the local area for a cheapsy cost? I did find a hostel 2k away from the place but i'm young and tender so i don't want to really be sharing with geezers ive never seen before.

Thanks in advance.

Joe

stay in the City, lots of brand name hotels (travelodge, HI Express, etc) that are dead at the weekends..... Liverpool St, Fenchurch Street, City Road, etc

Posted rates are around GBP70/night, but keep checking their sites for offers and you should get GBP55/night or less.

Most are within a block of the Tube.

To be honest, I wouldn't go to Freeze for three days! I reckon you will get well bored. It's not like a normal festival in any way.

ermm i only live three miles away so its not a problem for me!

But it does make recommending hotels that are the other side of London a little less appealing for other people when they then have a 30 minute walk from the tube station.

Hi Joe,

I agree with what others have said, probably best to go on the Saturday, stay over night in London and head home on Sunday.

Here is one option:-

Ashley Hotel on Hotels.com, it is £26 per room per night. It looks basic but clean and if you aren't too fussy about appearances, it is fine.

To get to Freeze, the quickest route would be to get on the Circle or District Line from Paddington to Sloane Square and walk from there. It takes about 13 mins.

It is easy to get back to Paddington in the evening through tube/bus so if you wanted to go out in town later on, you can get home very easily.

Don't worry too much about a hotel being a few miles away from the Freeze, Battersea is very accessible. If you are unsure, try using TFL's Journey Planner. You can type in the postcode of the hotel you have found and then Battersea and it will tell you about the different travel options and how long it takes.

For other hotels, have a look at:-

cheaphotels.co.uk
http://www.hotels.com
They seem to have a range of places available and at a whole range of prices, quite a few of which are under £30

EDIT: Sorry link to specific hotel doesn't work, it was the Ashley Hotel by Paddington, search on hotels.com by 30th Oct and it will come up
