Top girl’s snow kit for 2013

Posted on Monday 30th July, 2012 Times Viewed: 3201
Summer may have finally descended upon us but with only a matter of months til winter is back, we’re already counting the days til we can pack our board bags again. As a result, we’re thinking about what to put in those bags and what we should be rocking on the slopes come winter. Thanks to The Snowboard Test back in May, we had a chance to put all the 2012 kit to the test – as here’s our pick of the crop.

Boards

Top 3 girls’ boards, in no particular order, were definitely the Rome LoFi, Salomon Oh Year and the DC Biddy.

The LoFi was super powerful and one of the most fun and stable rides of the week. It didn’t shatter at speed, was super easy to control, and was super strong on take-offs and landings, without compromising the fun. If you want a board for both Dome and mountain, the LoFi ticks every box.

I’ve been riding the Salomon Oh Yeah since January, and loved every second – whether cruising fresh pow in Serbia, hitting the airbag in Avoriaz, or doing freestyle courses in Hemel. It is such a lightweight board which is stable, fun, awesome for progression, and loves the speed as much as the pop. For the full review, check it out here.

Last but definitely not least, the DC Biddy really stood out for me at the Snowboard Test. I was giggling like a small child as all it wanted to do was go out and play! Side hits, park, and popping around on the piste were what the Biddy was all about, and I was still able to cruise round the mountain too. If I had my dream, this would be a perfect second board to take to the domes – I mean, Friday nights are all about having fun, and the Biddy sure wouldn’t let you down.

Bindings

The Ride VXN bindings were my choice of binding for the entire test. They were super comfortable, moulded around my boots and were always completely secure. They had no dodgy pressure points, and the VXNs have never let me down over the past two seasons.

Outerwear

Now you’re all set up, it’s all about looking slick too – and although I don’t like being a brand whore, it’s all about DC. As soon as I set sight on the DC Varsity Jacket and Viva SE Pants, I knew that’s what 2013 was all about – rocking the college look with the fully mountain-ready cord skinny snow pants! Super comfort, slick style, and all the tech you can expect from DC. Couple this up with a fresh pair of Celtek mitts and you’re sorted for the season. We were particularly stoked on the Bitten by a Womitten mitts, but have loved every style Celtek has blessed their gloves with.

With your hands Celtek cosy, you shouldn’t forget your feet, and Sterling Socks are definitely the way forward. British born and bred thanks to Brit legend Dan Wakeham, with UK rider-own socks, you can’t go wrong with investing in many pairs of these. We particularly like the Aimee Fuller style!

Goggles

The best investment you can make this season is for your eyes, with the best set of goggles out there, fact. The Dragon APX (or APXS for smaller faces) not only look slicker than slick but you’ll be taken back by the sheer crystal visibility come rain or shine. I’ve worn the APXs all winter and never once had issues in any condition, plus they’re super comfortable, never steam up, and fit perfectly over beanie or helmet – so much so, there were times I even forgot they were on my face!
